How would adcoms judge this particular situation?

Say two applicants have, for the most part, identical stats and ECs. But one applicant has a 3.7 gpa with grade replacement and the other has a 3.7 without grade replacement. Would adcoms favor the applicant who got a 3.7 first try or would it not make any difference?

In that situation, both candidates would likely be interviewed and a decision would come from that.

You're assuming literally everything else about the app is the same, which isn't realistic. However, if I were to play into this assumption, then it all boils down to the interview I suppose.

Even in this scenario everything else can't be the same. Did both have an upward trend at the end? By needing grade replacement that means one had a struggle with something at some point academically. So that struggle could show recovery and reinvention, which schools appreciate or it could suggest the person took 5x to get through every class. The person with the straight score would have less explaining to do but may also be unable to answer how would you deal with failing a class. Both would likely get an interview.

So your hypothetical situation still has too many holes to answer for DO. Now for MD it's less complicated as the straight 3.7 would win.

What exactly are you trying to figure out?

I honestly think adcoms only care about your GPA and MCAT, and pretty much that only. I have my doubts about them rejecting 3.7's with high mcat scores in DO schools.

I dont have either of the stats but when I shadow I do meet several students who did/do have these scores at both MD and DO. They are just regular people. It is surprising that some of them were able to coherently make it through the interview. So the answer your question might be, neither, they will compare the 3.7's equally and probably accept both and reject the guys with a 3.5 or lower.

I know of a few rejects at my DO school who had over 3.7 and 315 MCATs but during interviews they all but said they wanted MD and only applied to DO as a last resort and acted like they were too good for the school. Don't know if they got into an MD school but they didn't get into my school. gpa and mcat might get you through to an interview but it can make up for being obnoxious and a jerk.

Yeah of course, if youre a complete idiot and hurt the sentimental DO peoples feelings then you may get rejected. I think what Im trying to allude to is, if you act normal, and have a neutral interview you should be okay.

Yes, i agree if you are statistically in the top 40% already and you don't screw it up then you'll almost guaranteed be in the 40% accepted.
