I saw some people say they were asked what their favorite tv shows were...it is a simple question and I know most interviews are "conversational." I know what I would say if a friend was asking but I'd probably reconsider what I would say during an interview.

What are your favorite shows/what would you say in an interview?

I would be honest, I don't think the shows I watch would give them a negative impression of me, though I probably would not mention how quickly I have gone through some series via Netflix binge-watching. I feel like pretty much every show could be justifiable, even if your justification is "Well, when I watch TV, it's kind of a guilty pleasure and something I do to completely relax and shut my brain off for a little bit so I tend to watch Entertainment news/reality show/whatever else is considered not 'high-brow' television". I don't really see how you could respond to this question poorly unless you said something like "Grey's Anatomy, it's my only motivation for pursuing medicine and I'm positive that is what it is really like to be a doctor, can't wait to meet McDreamy!" or went very political with your response (Fox News) or something creepy like "Law and Order, I always root for the criminals". They aren't going to put you in the reject pile for watching Friends or something.

Real answer: Game of Thrones. Obviously.
Interview answer: Call the Midwife. I honestly think it's one of the best shows on TV, and not a lot of people have seen it. If anyone here hasn't seen it, I highly recommend it. It's so inspiring.

Edit: Now that I'm thinking about how great Call the Midwife is, it's also one of the most quotable shows ever:
"The world is full of love that goes unspoken. It doesn't mean that it is felt less deeply or that separation leaves a cleaner wound. Its beauty--and its pain--are in its silence. Some of us are not blessed with revelations or confessions. Love cannot be spoken, only shown."
How beautiful is that?

Parks and Recreations easily

latest

Hellsing ultimate would be my honest answer. Probably would say game of thrones or breaking bad at the interview.

Criminal Minds.

I have no idea what I would say in an interview regarding that or inserting some other show....

Edit: I think I may have been asked this at one of my interviews. I think I mentioned The Walking Dead and Seinfeld.

Game of Thrones. Westworld. Vikings. Reign.

I loved that show, but it seemed like the plot of every other episode was black baby + white father = drama.

Haha that's one of my favorite episodes, but I see what you mean. It never gets old for me though, I love shows that can make me cry!

I've been binging so much HGTV lately! My favorite is flip or flop.

But I'd probably be much more inclined to talk about those types of shows than say, Black Mirror

I spent winter break binging Property Brothers and Criminal Minds. You don't get many opportunities to do that in med school.

Narcos. You want to be the greatest doctor right? Sometimes you have to thin out your competition.

I actually did get asked this question in an interview (albeit not a med school interview) and I answered truthfully, which is Big Brother. ...What I probably shouldn't have done is follow up with how I love the social experiment side of the show and that I can log onto the livefeeds at 3AM and watch all the houseguests sleeping...

Veronica Mars or Extras BBC to friends or in an interview. Or An Idiot Abroad which probably isn't a great answer for an interview...

I've watched them a lot over the past few years. Extras probably nudging ahead a bit because it is hilarious and I love a good laugh.

House, Dexter, Lie to Me

I am those 3 characters combined (except I'm not a serial killer)

Why do you feel that the answers need to be different?

I'd say Dr Who and 60 Minutes

I wouldn't ding anyone who watched Game of Thrones. I've always liked Sean Bean even since the Sharpe series.

Westworld.

Westworld.

Seriously, the ethical and existential questions the show poses are profound.

Drifters is good fun as well...

Any Fringe lovers? Stranger things? Walking Dead?

Personally, my newfound love is Steven Universe. For a kiddy looking, it's surprisingly deep.

Anyone who doesn't like Sean Bean is either uncultured or as dead on the inside as every character he plays is on the outside.

If I were to pick a kid's show, it would be Adventure Time for this generation or Batman: The Animated Series for mine. Both are incredibly deep once you look past the surface.

I love stranger things. I had a stranger things themed Halloween costume last minute.

For a cartoon that's not really a kids show I just can't get enough Bobs Burgers, Louise is my favorite.

What are your favorite shows/what would you say in an interview?

Cosmos, both the Sagan version and the Tyson version.

Outside an interview I'd add Sopranos, Breaking Bad, The Wire, Oz, House of Cards etc. all the other requisite top class shows. andddd Chopped/other dumb cooking shows

I would answer honestly. Scrubs, Friends, and anything space related.

Edit: I completely forgot about No Reservations or really anything with Anthony Bourdain.

Shocked and offended I haven't seen It's Always Sunny in this thread yet. Although idk how well that would go over with the interviewers 😱.

Westworld is too good not to mention. Loved Firefly but sadly it was ended prematurely.

Others that could easily take the spot of one of my favorites: The Office, Parks and Rec, GoT, Seinfeld (oldie but a goodie), Scrubs, others I can't think of atm.

I just picked back up on It's Always Sunny- I used to watch it every week when it came on. So hilarious.

I like The Office too but I adore Martin Freeman in the original The Office, neither would be number one for me but I like the U.K. Version a bit more. Plus I can binge it real quick lol

Leftovers on HBO 😱...how has no one said this...?????

Does no one else watch reality TV? I literally cannot watch anything else and I can never talk to my classmates about it because I haven't found anyone 🙁 It's just too good.

ummmm yes, and I believe I admitted it in an interview question one time. No shame in my game! Real Housewives, Van der Pump Rules, pretty much anything on Bravo, I watch lol and I don't care if I'm judged for it 😛

For me the only thing that would change would be the depth of the response. With a friend, I'd say "I love "The West Wing," it's such a good show and [insert actor's name here] is great in [role]." At an interview, I'd probably say it a bit more professionally, and I'd explain more in depth why I like it ("I'm involved politically, and despite the fact that the show is over a decade old, it tactfully tackles some of the same political issues that still face our country and our world today." for example)

I watched the pilot of This is Us. Is the rest of the show as good?

Yes. It's a great show. So pumped for the rest of the season.

I binged the entire season yesterday and teared up not once, so it's a yes from me!

Season 1 isn't over yet! They were just on their mid-season break. It starts up again tonight!

YAAAS VANDERPUMP. I'm literally the same. Thank you for putting my mind at ease.

Some of the things I watch are absolute garbage and I love it: wanderpump rules, real housewives, the bachelor, gossip girl

Fave show was desperate housewives

Then parks and rec and the office too of course.

I like to think it's a beautiful delicate balance between being scientific and intellectual at my job and in school and then a complete piece of trash on my couch.
