How would you answer this question in real life versus if you were asked during an interview?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Saying it in an interview vs. friends wouldn't really change my answer. My favourite shows are Lie To Me, House M.D. and Doctor Who. I figure that makes me a pretty interesting and diverse person, and none of those shows are something I feel I should hide from my interviewer.

Why would reconsider? what are you afraid you think it may say about you?

That's the thing...I'll always wonder what assumptions the interviewer might make about my personality or character because of the shows I watch. especially if the show is considered inappropriate for whatever reason by them.

Criminal Minds.

I have no idea what I would say in an interview regarding that or inserting some other show....

Edit: I think I may have been asked this at one of my interviews. I think I mentioned The Walking Dead and Seinfeld.

Yessss I LOVE criminal minds! Criminal psychology is absolutely fascinating. Maybe if I could come up with a more eloquent explanation to explain why I like the show, I would consider mentioning this one in an interview.

Some of the things I watch are absolute garbage and I love it: wanderpump rules, real housewives, the bachelor, gossip girl

Fave show was desperate housewives

Then parks and rec and the office too of course.

I like to think it's a beautiful delicate balance between being scientific and intellectual at my job and in school and then a complete piece of trash on my couch.

Gossip Girl was good. the end really caught me off guard. this is another show I would likely not mention to an interviewer

Honestly if I got rejected bc of my TV show choices I'd be like PEACE but also assume they probably have much better taste than I do.

We can safely say that the content of your answer has little to do with your admission to medical school but rather it is just to get the conversation going in a relaxed manner.

You telling me interviewers wont judge me for loving larry the cable guy, jerry springer and maury?!

Cue maury Im not the father dance

Kinda surprised nobody mentioned Grey's Anatomy yet. It's definitely not my favorite, but I'll admit to being a fan back in the season 1-3 days. Also, I just realized that makes me old.

Current favorites, that are airing now, in an interview or not: Game of Thrones, Westworld, Scandal (no shame). Also a fan of 30 Rock, Parks & Rec and of course Scrubs.

Sounds like something a serial killer would say.

House of Cards for me. I'd throw in American Horror Story and the recent season of American Crime Story (OJ case/trial) as well.

I really don't think this is a trick question, OP. Just a friendly question regarding your non-academic life and personality. If this question came up at my interview, I'd be ecstatic

Westworld. Hopefully the interviewer watches it so we can spend the rest of the interview talking about it
Doesn't look like anything to me....

Sorry, had to 😀. Aside from the obvious, Hannibal and Person of Interest.
In response to OP, I don't see why you'd make something up. Interviews are stressful enough without thinking about how adcoms might judge you for your entertainment preferences.

Star Trek! Any of them, all of them.

I also like Farscape but I'd probably leave that one out

Also The Walking Dead, Community, Doctor Who, and of course Greys/House/Scrubs

Game of Throne, Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead

Lost. I know this is usually a blazing hot take, but I thought the ending of the series was such an amazing and comforting take on the afterlife. Plus, character development off the charts. "The Constant" is one of the best 45 minutes of 2000s television.

Edit: I'd answer the same in either scenario.

When I applied I said Chopped, American Horror Story, and GoT. If I had to answer now it would be Futurama, Lost, and the X-Files, because I wouldn't be trying to come up with more socially acceptable answers...

I got asked at an interview what my favorite show was. Answer: Archer.

Also other interview asked group if we could be anyone, fictional or not, who would we be. Answer: Lana Kane

Pretty sure you're my wife's spirit animal.

House, MD and Scrubs reruns, you want to get into medical school, right?

I'm a big Grey's Anatomy fan...maybe I'd mention it but I'd hope that they don't think I have a romanticized notion of medicine because of it.

Trying to frame an answer because of speculation of what the other person may possibly interpret from what you say, especially to someone who is conducting multiple interviews, seems like a neurotic fear. We can safely say that the content of your answer has little to do with your admission to medical school but rather it is just to get the conversation going in a relaxed manner. Not to answer honestly wastes this opportunity as you get stressed over the question that is simply asked to put you at ease.

I don't know I don't think a medical school interview is the most appropriate place to share your love for keeping up with the Kardashians or whatever

I am SO excited for the season premiere in a few weeks!

I think they are just trying to break the ice a bit and see if you are a pleasant person to be around. So, I would answer the same way I would in any other small-talky situation.

I recently got Netflix and am finally watching Gilmore Girls. I also really like Mad Men. Breaking Bad is great too.

"What television shows do you like to watch?", is a valid question in-so-far as there are no right answers, but definitely a few wrong answers... 🙂

Riddle me this: What is the absolute best TV show in the entirety of human history and why is it Frasier?

No anime fans here? 🙁
Kill-la-kill, psycho-pass, and death note are my favorites.

I am not proud to admit it but Shameless has been my drug of choice the past few weeks

Rick and Morty! I can't be the only one?!

I freaking love this show. Can't wait for the new season!

This comment and your avatar speak to me. Archer has never done wrong.
