Hey,
I am thinking about applying HOW, but their requirement is that DAT should be taken by oct. 31st. I took my first DAT in Aug., but bcz of bad pat, thinking about taking it again in NOV. I tried to contact school, but didn't get any response. Since I m thinking about taking it again in Nov., I should not apply there. what do u guys suggest me??????????????

that means, I shouldn't apply there. I know they accept 76% of residents, then hawai..I know they probably accept only 5 students out of state for their class of 55 students.

I didn't really mean it to mean anything other than in case you didn't know. That's all.

I applied there, I am white. I didn't know it was a black school until after I applied there. I will still interview if they offer.

Don't go to Howard. Don't do it to yourself unless you know what you're getting into. If you do attend, be prepared to be frustrated and pissed off throughout your dental education. I wish this wasn't true, but it is.

Why? Whats up with howard? I just applied there recently as a "back up". I know its traditionally African American, but Im sure other races get accepted too? Or no? If any one attends howard or know more info on the school, please share.

There are other races, but the problem is the administration. It has ranked consistently the lowest. Having been a student there, it is a well-deserved reputation.

There are sorts of problems that no one will tell you about until you get there such as:

-Instructors not showing up for class

-Unorganized and unprofessional administration

-Rude faculty

-Grading errors on exams

-Poor board preparation and performance

-Faculty and administration not working on the same page

Howard has an agreement with Hawaii? I've never heard of that...

You probably won't believe me and neither would I have before I experienced it. If I were you and curious, you should view the hilltop online and read articles where these issues and more are readily discussed. The hilltop has been the best rated college newspaper in the country more than once. There is a reason for this. Read and become educated about the good and the bad of the mecca.

I have to agree with this.. I went to Howard undergrad and although the atmosphere is great (great social scene), the administration if HORRIBLE!!.. nevertheless.. i applied there as a backup school..

in response to the op a/b residency.. howard is a private school, so residency is not an issue

There is no way I could have info this detailed if I wasn't a student. Don't take my word for it. I am not just some curmudgeon ranting and raving. Simply apply and attend. Transferring in dental school is very difficult as you will find out among other things when you get there. You don't have to believe me, just spend the time and money to decide for yourself. Like I said, I wouldn't have believed it either.
