I'll be a freshman this fall and taking 14 credits which include General Bio, General Chem, Trignometry and US history. Here's my schedule for fall semester:

Mon- Trig(10-10:45), History(11-11:45), Bio Lec(1-2pm)

Tue- Chem Lec(1-2pm), Chem Recitation(2:30-3:15)

Wed- Trig(10-10:45), History(11-11:45), Bio Lec(1-2pm)

Thur- Chem Lab(8:30am- 11:10), Chem Lec (1-2pm), Bio Lab(5:30-8:15pm)

Fri- Trig(10-10:45), History(11-11:45)

ANy suggestions on my selection of classes would be helpful.
Btw, I already completed my ENglish requirement during summer. Also, its a commuter campus. Thanks !!!

You did a full year of english in the summer?

Also, if you can you may want calculus or stats instead of trig - more schools require those than require general college math which is what trig would fall under.

oh yea about trig, the placement tests that I took, it placed me into trig. I know that atleast Calculus I should be taken as a requirement. I guess I've to wait to take Cal till sophomore year.

And yes, I did complete both semesters of english during summer.( got A's in both courses😀)

I tried to schedule that Bio lab on thursday but there isn't a good selection of professors available for some other day. Plus I'll be commuting, so I can just come home and 'chill' during the chem lec and bio lab.

Like stated your thursdays are going to suck. Since you said it is a commuter campus, I am assuming you are a commuter. Long breaks suck for commuters because they are big waste of time, atleast thats what I thought. Good luck.

true it'll be a waste of time but its not like i've anything else to do except go to school 😉 and study.

I commute as well. Those breaks won't be a waste of time. Go to the library and study or do reseacrh. Just try not to make it result in a couple hours of quality SDN time.

Looks good to me- I also commute. Your schedule is easier than mine was 1st semester so you should do great!!! Use the lil breaks to get some studying done and just work really hard. Starting with a 4.0 first semester is always great!!!

Just a reminder- Biology 1 sometimes seems like a waste of time but what you study will come up again! I learned that the hard way when taking Genetics

helllzzz yea I'm aiming for a 4.0. Anything less than that is a 'failure.'

Anybody else?

IF i would have to sacrifice my life for that 4.0, hellzzzzzzz yea i'll do it. High GPA is my top priority, everything else comes second.

disagree.

4.0 is not hard to get, it depends on the school you attend. Your schedule is a bit too easy to not pull a 4.0.

Again, everyone is different. I pulled a 4.0 last winter semester with 23 credits (all classes, non research credits) + research and volunteering, did I have fun? Hell yeah. Actually got an A- when I took 16 credits before.

Did I ever in my two years in college study more than 2 days before a test? No. However, this is your first semester, use it as a measure tool to see how well you will do and how much time you need to study. Don't listen to other people and how they study, just do what's good for you.

The 2 days studying before an exam screwed me over for Orgo I, (my A-) but it worked just fine for Orgo II.

Back to my Original post, so i guess my schedule looks good?

bo-ya-sha-ka. DEM be da best shedual. Respect!

Although it may seem improbable, most medical schools aren't really going to care about your first semester of college as long as you break 3.0.

Take a lot more non-science classes in your following 3.5 years. It'll be fun, really. (Of course, I say that as a former double science major, but whatever.)

And for the love of god, don't read this forum for at least another two years. You're too young 😀

Your schedule looks ridiculously easy. I would add another class there, but it's really up to you.

Woah... what schools do you guys go to? Those classes are a huge load at my school. Even bio-111 (biological foundations) was a killer course. Also, do any of you guys take the ACS test at the end of your year for any of your chemistry classes?

Yeah, I took the ACS tests for both organic and gen chem. They were so freakin' easy it's crazy. I scored in the 99th percentile on both of them.

Maybe this attests to the quality of my chemistry program? And I go to an unknown school with less than 1000 students.

Don't feel discouraged if you don't get a 4.0 with that schedule OP. Sciences are different at different schools. If you ask anyone whos ever taken bio at columbia, they will tell you its one of the hardest classes they've ever taken.

yea, it might be true. I'm certainly not a genius in sciences, I just work hard to get a good grade. 😀

Looks good to me....you're getting a bio, chem & math out of the way. I'm also a commuter & the breaks are good for studying & reading. My Thursdays have always sucked b/c that's when my labs have been, too. This spring I had ethics 930-1045, physics 1230-230 & histology lab, 3-6. It was a loonnnggg day.

your Thursday is going to suck.

First thing I thought of.

And a huge +1 to "DO NOT SACRIFICE YOUR F*CKING LIFE FOR A F*CKING 4.0." Don't do it.

As my MDApps suggests, I've done reasonably well with undergrad and all, but as I've said elsewhere on this forum, I would lower my GPA for a chance to have a lot more fun through my first few years.

you might be right. However, aren't summer and winter holidays enough for having 'fun.'

I'm sure they are for a lot of people, but not for me if it implies a nose-to-grindstone disposition through spring/fall. Then again, I tend to enjoy the simple things in life quite a bit (anyone familiar with Jim Brickman...?), so I think I might have a slightly different definition of the word than other people.

'Tis a long, long story. 👍

I'm sad to see that this has been overlooked by so many but in case you haven't noticed, your Thursday is going to suck! Ew, Chem Lab then Chem Lecture and than you have to come back for late evening Bio Lab, sheesh. It would have been really nice if they offered an 8am Bio Lab on Tuesday morning. Anyway, it's not that bad and everything else looks really good. GL:luck:

there are two or three 8am bio lab offered on tuesdays. But the professors for those classes don't have very good reviews on Rate my prof. I mean, people have said things like 'the worst professor ever.' I could take it on tuesday mornings but my instructor will be bad. Should i do that or not?

you're a freshman. calm the f*** down.

just focus on school and get off sdn....it gets addicting...and very distracting, Also, after you see everyones superman status applications, you will start to fell that you are screwed....:meanie:

Ditto on the gen. chem. Our class average was in the 80 %tile.

I changed my mind the others are right. It's looks like you've done your research and have made a well informed decision regarding your current class schedule, so don't mess it up. You'll be fine, you can grab a bite to eat and catch a few 😴, in between classes on Thursday. Again, GL.:luck:

true that about 😴...sleeping is acutally one of my favorite hobbies.😀

I guess, i'll just stay with my current schedule then...

why are you taking general biology instead of Principle of biology?
General biology is for non science majors and Principle of Biology is for science majors and even if your not a science major Medical school requires it.
DOn't worry about Thursday its not that bad, I have 4 hours of chemistry every tuesday.
2 hours chemistry lecture
2 hour chemistry lab
now that suxs specially if you put 1:30 min of Math before chemistry. lol
you'll do fine. Good luck and you wish me luck! =)

mm, sleep is good.

This is the most sleeping-permissive schedule I've ever had, so I'm interested in seeing how it goes.

Over here, General biology is for science majors. For non-science majors its called "Introduction to biology" and "introduction to chemistry."

and yes, Good luck to you.

General biology is for non science majors and Principle of Biology is for science majors and even if your not a science major Medical school requires it.

1) Don't assume that the titles of classes are the same at every school. My school has general biology and general chemistry, both of which are for science majors (and for gen ed requirements). The non-science major classes (and those for the nursing students), is "Biology in the Modern World", and "Intro to Chemistry".

2) Don't assume that you HAVE to take the class designed for majors. Medical schools are perfectly happy with my physics classes, and they're definitely not for the people majoring in Physics. It depends on the medical school, it depends on the undergrad. Plus, many medical schools aren't very picky... they ask for like 6 credits of biology with lab, and that can mean general biology, or cell bio and lab (upper division classes).

your schedule is not that bad...ppl might tell u to take another class but your schedule is fine. I would keep it the way it is, just so u can get a feel for what it's going to be like, commuting with a full schedule.

just don't fall behind in studying and use ur time wisely.

ok.

Your schedule looks great! 14 credits is a great balance, just enough to remain on top of school and not overwhelming for you social aspects of college.
