I'm thinking about which schools I'm going to apply to after I got my MCAT scores back, so I'll appreciate it if you guys can give me some feedback. Pretty much, I either want to go to a med school who's going to be pretty affordable or a top 30 med school.
GPA: 3.94
sGPA: 4.0
University Type: Top 30, Large Private University in Urban Area
Home State: New York
Race: Southeast Asian
MCAT: 521 (131, 128, 131, 131)
ECs:
6 months in a research lab conducting independent research
- First author on poster/abstract submitted to journal
- About 300 hours
5 months serving as a research assistant volunteer
- Doing the regular aiding with research studies (screening, surveying, data input)
Hospital Volunteer (Clinical Volunteering)
- 120 hours right now, probably gonna be around 200 once June comes
Scribe position
- Starts next week
- Probably 150 hours once June comes
Community service
- Combination of free tutoring, aiding in community projects, helping the homeless, food drives, etc
- 400 hours
With all that being said, here's my potential school list. I got a list of around 30 schools, just to have a general outlook. Really want to stay in the northeast, and location in an urban area is a big thing for me.
New York Schools
- NYU
- Columbia
- Mount Sinai
- Cornell
- Albert Einstein
- Hofstra
- SUNY Downstate
- Stony Brook
- NYMC (potential)
- UAlbany
Philadelphia
- Thomas Jefferson
- UPenn
- Drexel
- Temple
Boston
- Boston University
- Tufts
- Harvard
D.C./Baltimore
- GWU
- Georgetown
- JHU
Other Northeastern Schools
- Dartmouth
- Quinnipiac
- Penn State
- U Rochester
- Brown
Midwest Schools
- UMich
- Northwestern
- UChicago
-WashU
- Case Western University
Any ideas on how to make this list more efficient? Once again, looking for schools that may give me a scholarship, or schools that are considered prestigious. Also, does the list look like a good balance?
Note: Didn't put any west coast schools on the list because i just prefer to stay in the east coast where my family, friends, and heart resides.
Thnx
