I'm thinking about which schools I'm going to apply to after I got my MCAT scores back, so I'll appreciate it if you guys can give me some feedback. Pretty much, I either want to go to a med school who's going to be pretty affordable or a top 30 med school.

GPA: 3.94
sGPA: 4.0
University Type: Top 30, Large Private University in Urban Area
Home State: New York
Race: Southeast Asian
MCAT: 521 (131, 128, 131, 131)

ECs:
6 months in a research lab conducting independent research
- First author on poster/abstract submitted to journal
- About 300 hours

5 months serving as a research assistant volunteer
- Doing the regular aiding with research studies (screening, surveying, data input)

Hospital Volunteer (Clinical Volunteering)
- 120 hours right now, probably gonna be around 200 once June comes

Scribe position
- Starts next week
- Probably 150 hours once June comes

Community service
- Combination of free tutoring, aiding in community projects, helping the homeless, food drives, etc
- 400 hours

With all that being said, here's my potential school list. I got a list of around 30 schools, just to have a general outlook. Really want to stay in the northeast, and location in an urban area is a big thing for me.

New York Schools
- NYU
- Columbia
- Mount Sinai
- Cornell
- Albert Einstein
- Hofstra
- SUNY Downstate
- Stony Brook
- NYMC (potential)
- UAlbany

Philadelphia
- Thomas Jefferson
- UPenn
- Drexel
- Temple

Boston
- Boston University
- Tufts
- Harvard

D.C./Baltimore
- GWU
- Georgetown
- JHU

Other Northeastern Schools
- Dartmouth
- Quinnipiac
- Penn State
- U Rochester
- Brown

Midwest Schools
- UMich
- Northwestern
- UChicago
-WashU
- Case Western University

Any ideas on how to make this list more efficient? Once again, looking for schools that may give me a scholarship, or schools that are considered prestigious. Also, does the list look like a good balance?

Note: Didn't put any west coast schools on the list because i just prefer to stay in the east coast where my family, friends, and heart resides.

Thnx

I think you're set for anywhere, especially if you have some sort of leadership experiences in there. but I'd remove dartmouth if you want urban. I haven't been there but I'm pretty sure it's not very urban. From what I've heard it's pretty secluded. Pretty sure georgetown is very picky with requiring applicants to have strong ties to the area? Brown is low yield to non brown undergrad students? With your stats you might get yield protected from drexel since they also have low yield?

I put question marks because I'm no expert and these are just things I've seen around here. @Goro is a big help with these lists.

Thanks all, I'll look into the suggestions and make the modifications. Really appreciate the help!

I know you said you want to remain in the Northeast, but I'd give a shot to some of the California schools (Keck, UCLA, UCSD, Standford, UCSF) just to expand your list a little bit. You never know... maybe you'll end up liking California and fall in love with one of the schools here during your interview 🙂 I had a buddy last year that really wanted to stay in Florida for med school but ended up loving one of the schools in New York and attends med school there now! Things change, you never know!
