Hi Everyone,

I have a question about the weight and height requirement for getting into the HPSP program. I know the weight requirement chart that is available at the Air Force website, but I was wondering if you can get waivers on that. It's not because I am lazy that I don't want to lose the weight, but it's because I play football at my college and probably wont be able to cut the weight in time for my physical. I am in no ways fat but according to the chart I'm overweight. I'm 5'10'' 220 do you think that I could get a waiver for a few months to be able to cut down the 190 I need to be?

Read the intruction more carefully. If it's like the Navy, you may be out of weight standards, but still meet body fat. The way they calculate it is this:
Subtract neck measurement (in) from waist (in). Measure to the closest 1/2 in for each. If 1/2 in. remains after calculation, round down to nearest inch. This number is used with height in a chart to find body fat. Max for males-22%. If no one beats me to it, I'll provide a link to the instruction later.
If branches are the same on this, being within body fat standards takes care of the weight issue.

Thanks for your help guys.

Thought I'd drop in a "ditto" to QM1's post: USAF handles weight + body fat as QM1 described for the USN.

I had a buddy in ROTC who was an All-American hammer thrower--WAY over the weight allowance but not an ounce of fat on him. I don't recall specifically what happened but I believe the taping didn't work out, so he had to be dunked in a tub of water (I'm not joking!) and have have his volume measured a la Archimedes. I think they used that to do a BMI calculation that finally gave him the "all clear."

Also have a friend who was the USAFA football center. . .he didn't make the weight scale either. 🙂

You'll be fine, hoss!
