Hi, so I'm interested in applying for the military scholarships (not sure which branch yet. Would you guys recommend applying to all 3 to better my chances?) but I need some advice on the timeline of the apps. I just got accepted into dental school and starts in early July. I'm pretty sure I'm late to the 4 yr scholarships but should I start the 3 year scholarships right now? A recruiter told me to wait until october since that's the beginning of the fiscal year. Would it be possible to apply during dental school? or after D1? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You have a very poor chance of getting into any of them. There are very few 3 yr scholarships and they typically go to individuals who applied for the 4 yr and were not accepted. That being said you should contact recruiters ASAP so they can help you get started. It's a long-shot, but not impossible if you've got good grades/scores.

I don't know how much of a long shot it is, but definitely apply as soon as possible. I applied to AF in May before starting D1 and was accepted for the 3 year. Just have letters of rec, medical records and everything else you can think of ready to help expedite the process

I thought your username read "itistoolate", and I was expecting a much different response.

I think Army/Navy are moving away from giving out three year scholarships, but AF is still actively recruiting for 3yr.

Would you happen to know if I can use the same letter of recs from aadsas? I got a committee letter after doing a post bacc and was also going to ask the post army dentist that I'm shadowing for a letter as well. Thanks!

Your letter of recommendations must be dated no later than 1 year of age. What you can do is ask your letter writers to change the date and resend it to the recruiter's office.

I may not have been as timely with my original application to dental school as I should have been...then for HPSP I was under the impression you could not apply until you had been accepted. By the time I had gotten around to my applications for HPSP it was obviously too late for a 4 year- maybe I just got lucky with an application for a 3 year AF scholarship.

The whole application process of HPSP is not very transparent- I wish that before I had applied I would have known about this forum. In the least I would have known I was in the dark with everyone else who applied- it wasn't just my recruiter who fell off the face of the planet haha

Thanks for the input! I contacted the Navy and the army, and they don't board any 3 yr applicants. Only 4 yr applicants that got rejected and was rolled over for a 3 yr applicant are eligible for the 3 yr. I'm getting in contact with a Air Force recruiter now. However, I think I'm not eligible to apply to any branch bc my gpa is a 3.1 which is well below the 3.5 cutoff for the airforce and 3.2? for the navy and army. Someone correct me if I'm wrong with the minimum gpa requirements.

Like others have stated, you should apply IMMEDIATELY (there's a ton of paperwork). As a side note, the Air Force gives away very few scholarships so it may not be beneficial to do so much paperwork for a very slim chance of getting the AF HPSP. Navy and Army have a ton tho, but even that's getting harder these days. Gl tho
