I've seen a few threads on this, but they are either outdated or more focused on medical school scholarships.

I know that HPSP is basically where the military pays your tuition (and a few other things), while giving you a monthly stipend. Then, you serve your country for each year you received the scholarship.
Does anyone have any info on what is different about the scholarship program between each branch of the military that offers it? Any additional info on the scholarship would also be appreciated.
Also, the USAF's website mentions HPSP but they don't have any specific information on how to apply or how to get in touch with a recruiter

Theres a military subfourm, but all three branches have HPSP. The navy offers HSCP as well. AF doesn't offer the $20k signing bonus (taxed).

Another thing that is different is that AF is much, much, MUCH harder to get into than Navy/Army. People with 3.9 GPA have been turned away by them. They have <20 4-yr scholarships/yr because they have a very high retention rate. Perhaps this is why they don't feel the need to offer the $20K sign-on bonus.

Army is generally seen as the least competitive/easiest to get.

And even Army is no guarantee! If your lurk through the military threads long enough you'll see highly competitive (academics) applicants being rejected or OML'd (waitlist)

Absolutely. Thank you for bringing this up. This year, at least three SDNers with ~3.7-3.8 GPA, 22-23 DAT, and lots of volunteering were waitlisted with the Army.

They look at the whole package. Good stats are not enough to secure a scholarship.

The military pays your tuition, books, necessary supplies if you are expected to buy or rent them, board exam costs, and loupes (if and only if your school requires them). They also pay a stipend for you to live off of. The scholarship is essentially the same for all three branches, but the AF does not provide a signing bonus. I would not base your decision on the lack of a signing bonus though. You would be best basing your decision on which service sounds most enjoyable to you. The nature of the job however, is essentially the same at all three branches. Someone above mentioned that it is difficult to get the AF scholarship. This is true in a sense (they give out very few), but it is easier to get the 3 year scholarship for the AF than their 4 year scholarship. The Navy and Army give out many more, so they tend to accept students later. For all three branches, applying early is key.

I don't remember how I got recruiter information for each branch. If it comes down to it though, you will most likely be able to get the recruiter information from whatever school you have been accepted to. The registrar or financial aid office usually works with the recruiter personally.
