so...I was wondering....if I get accepted to this scholarship...what do I have to start during my d school and summer...after graduation...and the short program before I go somewhere abroad? Can I pick the places I want to serve? Is this program good for my future of becoming an orthodontist? Thanks!

HPSP is the best return on your investment for getting into the military. It does not necessarily increase your chance of getting into Ortho. Students coming straight out of school do not get picked up for ortho (most other specialties they can...but not ortho). You will typically have to be in the Army 1 or more years to begin to be more competitive for Ortho.

Once you get into HPSP try to do the Officer Basic Course before you start dental school if you can. If not try to do it during school (search other threads for an explanation of the benefits). During school try to coordinate your summer interships at bases you are interested in possibly going to so you can check out the locations or the specialty programs they offer. You will only be allowed to pick locations in the US.
