quit your bi+chin whiney wh0re...you're probably bsing everything and probably are a HS dropout looking for some attention......and if you are....why on the internet?
MDApplicants should hardly be considered a bastion of rigorous survey-taking.Originally posted by crazee8
Come on at least have facts to back up your claims sophiejane. Go to mdapplicants.com every person who got 38 or above on the MCAT got accepted to a U.S. allopathic school. Maybe some osteopathic schools reject people with scores with MCATs in the 40s because they know they are just applying there as a safety. Oh and if you are so concerned, I'll probably be applying to MD/Phd programs only anyway.

....My parents are physicians and from their perspective, medical school, residency and working will be much, much tougher than being a premed. LOL. And I wasn't bragging, I honestly want to know if the international awards in debate and mathematics that I won as a high schooler will help me, since these are activities I am very passionate about and have devoted an inordinate amount of time to, so much time in fact that I have very little time to do the typical "premed" activities.

I can't believe so many of us have responded to this geek/troll.
Crazee, that source of info about people with 40 MCATs is called the MSAR. All of us have read it, and you have not.

p.s. hell, yes, this is the funniest thread ever. I nearly fell out of my chair when I read "Unfortunately, in all that time, I had never bothered to candy stripe. Tragically, I am now 25, a broken woman, and hoping desperately that I can get into an offshore medical school. Life is, as they say, a bitch." That made my day infinitely better, bringing me back from the brink of insanity, which was the result of my goal to learn all of immunology in 4 days...

What's the MSAR?

I stand corrected.
The Medical School Admissions Requirements book is a treasure trove of information about the admissions process and medical schools. It has tons of stats too....

I apologize about my ignorance. I just checked on amazon.com and it says they are out of print (2001-2002) because it's in limited quantity. What is the best way to get a copy of this book?

Also, do outstanding secondary school achievements and going to Harvard help in any way?

Oh, its actually really sad how many doctors there are with this so-called emotional intelligence and lack of intelligence, one of my dad's partners is like this and because of this he can't even do his job and always has to refer his patients for the silliest things to a specialist and sadly enough patients still keep coming to him because he is such a "sweet talker." I absolutely hate people like that and would rather go to a doctor like my mom or dad who are both really intelligent and even though they may lack this so called "emotional" intelligence by not "sucking up" to patients, they are still recognized as the best doctors in our area and love their profession.
Oh and if you are so concerned, I'll probably be applying to MD/Phd programs only anyway, as I am more interested in academic medicine than private practice.

I saw Erik Estrada [Pancho on CHIPS] a few years back in the St. Louis airport. I think he was more surprised someone recognized him [my dad has freakish recall abilities-the best is going to military movies and going hey that guy was in this and that] and that someone wanted his picture. good times.

All right, since we're already this far off topic I'll talk about my brush with fame. When I was in high school I was once paid to shovel the driveway of Mark Linn-Baker, aka Cousin Larry from Perfect Strangers. It was only a couple of years after the show went off the air, but he was already up by what must have been 40 pounds.
Sadly, no Balki sightings.

Huh, this thread now has a five star rating? How did that happen?

LOL the "skin the game..." You make it seem like being a premed is the hardest thing in the world. Its really not that hard to get a high GPA or MCAT score as the prerequisites are really easy.
I really don't empathize with people who always complain about how premed is so tough. Go to any third world nation and you'll see starving people dying every day in the struggle to overcome the social milieus of poverty. If you are so stressed out all the time, and made "so many sacrifices," lol, perhaps you should reevaluate your goal of being a physician. My parents are physicians and from their perspective, medical school, residency and working will be much, much tougher than being a premed. LOL. Umm, when did I say I was poor? lol. Maybe you're thinking of that David kid. I am not poor nor am I rich, more like upper middle class. Please get your facts straight. My parents are primary care physicians and are from the UK and so studied medicine for five years directly after high school. They were accepted solely based on having high marks on the A-level Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths exams and so they don't know all that much about U.S. medical school admissions process. However, they know a lot about the USMLE tests and the residency process as they teach residents and were trained here.
Oh, and thanks to all the people who actually answered my question sincerely without being malicious. I even wrote my initial post in the third person so as to avoid any personal attacks and never expected that people would respond in such a manner. I never intended to offend anybody, so don't take it personally. Bye.

Would the medical school admissions committee find it impressive if a high school student took the MCAT the summer before matriculating college or freshman year of college and scored quite high on it (like a 35+)?
Also, would it matter if a student has national and a few international awards in debate, mathematics and science at the high school level and continued to excel in these areas in college in order to reach a distinguished and exemplary level of excellence, but at the sacrifice of having very little to no medically related work experience? In other words, if one had outstanding secondary school achievements and went to Harvard, would it help?
Thanks!!!

Bull Twaddle. Crazee8, if you were really a bio-lympics camper:
1) Who will eat your babies if you don't medal?
2) Describe the T-shirt. Food too, while you're at it.
3) Explain the in-jokes: Umbo, parasympathetic, epinephrine...or others of your choice, if you want.
(Give me something I know you can't Google.)
