hSDN Class of 2012

Weird, I had them for both occasions.

:meanie:👍

Ahhhh good tip. I will be sure to do that, as I am a wuss when it comes to tooth pain. 😛 Was it weird getting knocked out? I've never had any other surgery that required anesthesia.

It is as easy as falling off a log. They will have an IV ready, (In your arm nothing attached), and once you are seated in the Operating Area they will cover you with an apron-esque thing to keep fluids/blood off your clothes. Then they hook up the IV, start the fluids, and tell you to count backwards from 10. I got to 8 and then I recall nothing. I woke up an hour later and the Surgical Nurse asked me if I could walk, and I walked with her to the recovery room, where I sipped water until my mom brought the car around. Quick stop at drive-through express Pharmacy, and home to sip my milkshake and sleep.

I remember waking up in the middle of my surgery, but I couldn't feel anything, just saw the guy, he asked me if it hurt, I couldn't say anything though, and don't remember anything after that until I woke up after. I also thought my dogs (great Danes) were in the OR at one point.

I can't imagine how much that must have sucked. I took forever to stop bleeding, had to keep replacing the gauze for like 36 hrs. icky.

I got them taken out when I was 13, and that was the first time that I cursed in front of my parents.

Okay, I think I can handle that. 🙂 I've heard the 3rd day after is the worst... true or false?

Ahhh that's one of the things I'm nervous about D: I really don't want to wake up in the middle of things lol.

That's pretty funny, and that's friggin' awesome that you have Great Danes 😀 I want to have one someday.

Had to look for a little while to find out who was having the surgery. Anyway, I can only speak from the perspective of having my impacted canines buttoned (oral surgery), and I still have my wisdom teeth. But, here's some of the points I learned from my personal experience.

1. It will be sore. Don't expect to feel completely fine after the procedure (which is a surgery). That being said, the pain should be manageable as long as you take your painkillers and follow the surgeon's instructions. Nothing too bad.

2. FOLLOW YOUR SURGEON'S INSTRUCTIONS. I had a nacho two weeks after my surgery (a very dumb idea, I have come to learn). Had to put with random and heavy oral bleeding for about a month afterwards.

3. You probably won't wake up. Nothing can be guaranteed, though. 🙂

Anyway, I'll save the rest of my experience for after your surgery. Good luck!

Thanks AHMD! 👍

In an unrelated note that involves less blood and pain (possibly), just finished reading "Immortal Life by Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot for my British Literature class. Really great book, especially for people going into the life sciences. One of the few times I actually enjoyed reading a book for a lit class. (Have a 1984-esque book coming up, though, so my attitude may change quickly).

Pro tip: don't watch the movie "Awake" the day before your surgery. I didn't but I think that would be a terrible idea...

INS: That. Dog. Looks. AWESOME. Also, what curse word and how did they react?

Ceph: I have heard that, but it wasn't the case for me. Seems like an old wive's tale, but you never know.

AHMD: Interesting. Off to Amazon!

She is the one whose cells don't die right?

Thanks C, he was strung out on dog-Vicodin in that pic lol.

*******es, as in those *******es never got my prescription!

That is absolutely amazing. If there ever was a situation that required the words 'dumb' and 'ass' to be fused and emerge in all there glory as one, that was it. Who loses a 13 year old's pain script? Sheeeesh.

The doggy vicodin sure explains why he looks so peaceful though. Dreeeeeeeeeeaming.....

Yup, the planets aligned, and time stopped as angels gathered and sang a heavenly tune as my parents took away my gameboy.

Edit: color

Lol.

I remember GameBoy Color. Pokemon! I sunk so many hours into that shiz.

I own a yellow game boy color and a purple/see through game boy adv. I lost Pokemon silver a while back though, 🙁 I had a lvl 100 Snorelax!

Level 100!? Sweet! My go to was a Typhlosion, which I got to mid-nineties.

I have a GameBoy Color, GBAdvance, DSlite, and now a 3DS.

Not to mention my consoles... *sigh*

It is a Nintendo museum in my room. 😀

I have a pink DS lite 🙂 Somewhere... I'm not really sure where it is at the moment. My favorite games were/are Animal Crossing, Zoo Tycoon, and Mario Kart. 👍 I also really liked other Mario game I had too, though I don't remember what exactly it was called.

I love Animal Crossing, and MarioKart7 is a lot of fun as well. What is 'Zoo Tycoon'?

There is a Smash Bros game slated for the 3DS. IsoexcitedyouhavenoIdea.

Zoo tycoon is probably like roller coaster tycoon. You set up a zoo and improve it to try and get more customers.

lol. App Essay, 'How a Level 100 Typholsion Changed My Life.'

Pahahaha 😛 And yes, Zoo Tycoon is the zoo equivalent of Rollercoaster Tycoon. It was a pretty fun game, I invested quite a few hours in it. My zoo was pretty legit. #justsayin' 😀

My animals would "accidentally" break out of their cages sometimes and attack the customers.

C, where did you get my essay? I sent that to AHMD to proof read in confidence!

Hey, guys. I thought I would make a thread in which the rising senior class can discuss their plans for the coming year and college. What are you taking? How are you doing? Where are you planning to apply or go? What profession(s) are you considering? What are some of your potential majors?

I'm considering applying to Tulane and two of my in states (Auburn and Alabama.) I'll probably go IS (because my family not having to contribute anything + no under grad debt = 🙂 right?)
I'd like to major in biology or some related science, depending on what the school offers. Torn between going premed or prevet, so I've been shadowing this year to see what happens.

Congratulations! Let's keep up the good work and have fun!

Good luck y'all, college is **** hard but it seems like you all are intelligent so you can do it

No idea. Haven't been reading my messages or posting any of them, so I can't say.

And yes, my temporary like for Brit. Lit. has ended. First chapter of new book involved an assembly line of embryos, purposely causing brain abnormalities to determine social classes, etc. Needless to say, this isn't going to be fun.

Sounds... interesting. What book is that?

It was a joke and an allusion to my college essay that you proof read months ago 🙂.

We just read Hamlet, it was good.

But I hate analyzing the crap out of it, I seriously don't care about how the drapes that Polonious hid behind symbolized the veil that the nobles kept over the peasants or any of that crap (completely made up symbolism, so don't use it in a paper BTW).

What can I say, after I heard from a 'friend' you logged into SDN from a public IP portal (Naughty INS, you are supposed to pay attention during that math course!) all I had to do was set up a simple dummy account on your school's server and use a bot program with a recursive algorithm to snag your password. And the rest is history. 😀 #thatwassarcasm #youcan'tprovideinflectionwhencommunicatingintextualforms

I haz a cough too. So annoying to have to carry a pack of tissues around all the time, but my honey lemon cough drops rule.

I am thinking the first day of fall for the 2020 thread.

(September 22)

Thoughts?

I was thinking 9/11, so it can be the most significant thing to-nope, not gonna do it, someone could see it as offensive. I was thinking the week that classes start, but the only premed prerequisite I'll be taking is physics.

You are majoring in Business/Physics, right?

Ha! Ironically indeed. 😛

By the way, anybody else bogged down in the mire of finding/applying for outside scholarships? Blech.

Not really. I was given a good amount from my school, and there really aren't any outside scholarships that I can apply to (mostly not enough volunteer service). Our town has a committee who gives scholarships to students based on their grades and activities, though, so that helps the process a lot.

Yeah. I have applied to about 10, but the applicant pool is so large my hopes aren't high.
