hSDN Class of 2014

I haven't taken the SAT yet either. I do plan on taking SAT Biology M, SAT Chemistry, and SAT Math 1. My parents are making me take the ACT too. I haven't really started studying for the SAT, it depends when I'm taking it.

Have you taken a full, timed official SAT test yet from the BB?

Embarrassing... I haven't purchased a book yet, but I heard that it's really good.

Got my AP scores:
AP Human Geography-5
AP Comparative Politics-4
AP U.S. Government-4

I'm so happy about these scored. I wouldn't have mind 3s. I don't get my hopes up because they usually are crushed, so I guess I'm a "pessimist" about what I get on tests and they usually result in being better than I hoped.

You guys... need to stop worrying about what specialty you're going to end up in. You are going to be juniors in high school, and you have 10 years to make that decision, and you will never really know until MS3 or MS4 or even after. You might get surprised and change your mind. That's a problem to pass on to Future-All-of-You. However, deciding a field to go into: Veterinary, Nursing, Medical, Pharmacy, etc... that's a decision that needs to be made in as little as two, to as many as six years from now.

It's great to have direction, but you guys seem focused on tiny details and things you can't possibly know at this point.

Just concentrate on good grades and getting into a good college.

Damn, bro. Good job and keep up the hard work. 😀

I'm taking the ACT too, sometime after the SAT. I have to check the schedules.

Why are you guys taking both tests? IMO, just study really well for one of them, do well, and then go to the college you want. Lol - as easy as that.

I know what you mean, but I also need it as a backup plan. My parents want me to take it as well, so...,yeah lol.

Also I'm taking SAT IIs for the type of colleges I'm hoping to apply to.

Specifically Math Level 2 and either Chemistry or Biology.

Aaah, me too. I'm taking Math Level 2, Chemistry, and SAT Literature. I'm currently really only studying for the Lit, though.

Truthly, I'm not studying for any because I'm quite lazy during the summer. Can't do that so much next year.

Joining the Class of 2014!!! 🙂 However, I'm Canadian, so we don't need to take the SAT's here....I am looking to American Colleges/ Universities (I'm not really sure how that works) so I might need to take it....any advice?

Oh yes, I am currently a junior (gr.11), probably like the rest of us.....I want to be a surgeon.....I am also currently supposed to be reading "The Stone Carvers" by Jane Urquhart....but I'm here....I read 16 pages, did 7 character analysis' and two "occurence" analysis....That's about it.....BTW....is everyone on this thread American? (not being offensive, just genuinely curious - about the American student mentality, as opposed to my Canadian student mentality 🙂)

Hi, I'm also joining class of 2014! yeh
My ultimate dream is to become a neurologist but if it doesn't work out, I'll try something else. T_T

I'm really interested in 6 or 7 year bs/md program (i.e. PSU 6 year program). Does anyone know the stats to get in a bs/md program?

Let me give you guys some advice...
Give up, just quit, because in this life, you can't win. Yeah, you can try, but in the end you're just gonna lose, big time, because the world is run by the Man. He's everywhere. And the Man ruined the ozone, he's burning down the Amazon, and he kidnapped Shamu and put her in a chlorine tank! And there used to be a way to stick it to the Man. It was called rock 'n roll, but guess what, oh no, the Man ruined that, too, with a little thing called MTV! So don't waste your time trying to make anything cool or pure or awesome 'cause the Man is just gonna call you a fat washed up loser and crush your soul. So do yourselves a favor and just GIVE UP!
BAD ADVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1😡😡😡😡😡

GUYS!!!!!!!! We need to get this thread going again! We are ALMOST seniors! How is everyone doing? How are SATs and ACTs coming along? What college/major are you all aiming for? We have to live up to the class of 2012 thread!

Wow I never saw this thread. I guess it got buried :\

Anyway, I'm in the class of 2014. My goal is to become a medical doctor (MD or DO). Though I don't want to decide on a specialty yet, some form of surgery interests me (as does Emergency Medicine). I plan on going to my local state school (which is top 100). My desired major is neuroscience with a minor in Latin American Studies. I've also already talked to some doctors at the affiliated medical school/hospital about doing undergraduate neuroscience research. I actually had a very difficult time in high school as an underclassman. In 9th grade I had both social and academic problems. In 10th grade most of the social quandaries had vanished, but academic problems persisted. 11th grade has really been my final recovery. I went from one of the worst students ever, to honor roll first semester, and high honors second semester. Next year I am taking a couple of AP classes. Some of you may have seen my latest thread "Why don't people go to Canada to become doctors?". Please ignore this thread. It is embarrassing. However, I think my posts are generally more respectful. My basic stats are

GPA: ~3.1, could be slightly higher if I hustle next year.
SAT: ~1850
ECs: Pretty good, lot's of volunteering, school play, etc.

My stats won't get me into any "top" schools, so I think I'm just heading off to my state school (which happens to be a great school).

Just to add on to the "You know you're a total pre-med when..."

You know you are a total pre-med when you get on SDN before school starts to check if anyone replied to your post! HAHA.

You sound just like me as far as ambition is concerned! I am also interested in some sort of surgery or em! I have shadowed a gen surgeon and hopefully I will be doing some research this summer! Keep it up man!

How were your CR+M sat scores? Mine were decent but nothing that will get me into a "top" school!

620 M + 600 CR

I think. I forget.

I'm on vacation 🙂

I'll start if by saying the Class of 2014 is the best 👍

For right now I'm planning on going to UNG, VMI, IU, Purdue, or Utah State for my undergrad. Probably in Biology or Kinesiology.

Joining the military?

Joining the military?

Yeah, I just recently applied for the Army ROTC scholarship. If I don't get in to medical school I'll just be a line officer in the Army. But if everything works out, I'll end up as an Army doc or surgeon!

That's awesome. They pay for your education which is great.

True that 👍

What are your plans, my man? Where you wanting to go to school?

Oh my this thread :O As I looked back at my old comments, I came off a little annoying and awk lol. Let's try to keep this thread going If we can.

The University of Vermont hopefully. If not I'll just go to Ole Miss (where I know I can get in).

I need all 5's to get into Oxford.

:scared:

Are you seriously applying to Oxford?
😱

Yes!

If I get all 5,5,4 or 5,5,5 I will

If I get two 4's then I'm done.

I just need to raise my 3.4 to. 3.8-3.9

I'm taking 5 or 6 AP classes next year and I've taken the practice SAT's. the last practice SAT I got a 1960. I want a 2000+ the first time so the second time I want closer to perfect

Btw how difficult is the actual SAT?

About the same as the PSAT. It has more stuff on it than the PSAT, but hopefully you have learned more in school. I'm retaking it in June. Is it even possible to go from 3.4 to 3.9 in one year? Hell, with those stats (3.9 and 2000+) you could even shoot for maybe an ivy.

I think so.

I raised my GPA from a 2.6 to a 3.4 so i think I can manage a 3.8 with hard work

And perhaps.... Wharton is my #1 choice because of business but I'm not concerned with rankings really.

I really would really enjoy going to Carnegie Mellon, and Fordham seems like a great fit as well as UDelaware 😍

I think I might apply to UDelaware. Lots of girls 🙂

Are you really from Alpine?

Did anyone else take the ACT along with the SAT? or is that just a NC thing? 😕

I just took the SAT, no ACT for me. West coast ftw! lol

Indiana FTW! Just kidding, it's flat and boring here. That's why I'm getting far away 👍

i'm a senior, but i figured i'd drop in on you lame 2014'ers
not srs

ACT sucks soo..👎 lol, i took both, but did better on the SAT.

I think so.

FWIW, I also tried to raise my GPA. I had a 3.5 at the end of sophomore year and it took me a year of weighted classes, 4 online courses, and 4 summer classes each worth 1 credit of 4.0's, and I only raised it to just short of a 3.8. It takes a lot of hard work, and even then it may not be enough. Basically I'm saying, put in as much as you can as don't be upset if you fall short because at least you tried. Good luck; may the force be with you 😉

I got a 2.3 as a freshman..............
C+ FTW!

Oh lame huh? Lol we are the BEST.

I have a 3.71 UW right now but after this semester it will be somewhere around 3.75 I hope! First semester of this year totally killed my GPA 🙁

But I buckled down and rocked this semester!

We should have some sort of discussion on a current health care topic? I feel like that would allow us to see each others perspective and sort of bond lol, after all, we will be maybe attending the same med school or even working in the same hospital? Yeah I'm bored.

I have a 3.85 CGPA for all of high school right now. But I have a 4.0 his semester so I'm hoping that'll raise it before I start applying to colleges!

Jpatle: We should try to go to UG or Med School together! That'd be awesome lol!

Steinmetz MD: Definitely, or at least hang out during med school or ug. That would be pretty cool! We should have a bunch of class of 2014er get together after pre-med or something! That would be too dope.
