HTN and DM thiazide?

why would you use a thiazide in a patient with HTN w/ coexistant diabetes?

The answer (on tests) is pretty much always an ACEI. I don't think I've seen any questions where they wanted you to choose a thiazide
 
Probably an errata since thiazides open K+ channels in beta cells of pancreas which decreases insulin release.

my point exactly, not to metion the hyperlipidemia it also promotes that DM also have. From uw i have this writtten down, but whats first line for htn in nondiabetic patients? i have thiazides and dihdydro ca2 blockers
