Hi
I'm writing a research paper about human nature in lord of the flies. Since a lot of people wrote about that, I wanted to present human nature in a different light. I wanna apply Maslow's hierarchy of needs to the novel.
Since my background knowledge about psychology is limited, I wanted to ask you a few questions:
-If someone was denied one of the needs, would that push him to seek it through aggressive behavior?
- why would a criminal enjoy killing? Does that have to do with being denied one of the needs?
- Why is it difficult for a person to kill?
- Maslow had a somewhat positive perspective of human nature. William Golding on the other hand, had a negative one. Would it seem contradictory if I applied Maslow's hierarchy to Lord of the flies?
- Do you have better theories of psychology that can be applied to the novel?
Are there any good books you recommend I read. Keep in mind that I'm beginner and that English is not my native tongue. Thank you
