I have gathered a good amount of interest in psychiatry recently and I was wondering if the fact that I love humanities (majored in English, love to read philo & lit, love to draw/paint) is in anyway indicative that psychiatry would be a good fit. It seems to be the specialty where a curiosity towards the human condition has the most relevance, but since I have not worked in the field day in and day out, I cannot say. What do you think?

I think so. Maybe if you worked as a part-time psychiatrist you would have more time to reflect on your patient experiences and be creative in other areas.

Curiosity into the human condition, as you put it, is what I think draws many to the field. The best psychiatrists in my opinion are ponderers. Of course the best artists, of all stripes, are as well. So yes, I think you're on the right track.

The decision tree is pretty easy for psych vs the rest of medicine. Do you get boners for creatinine levels and CHADS scores? Hang a left at the fork in the road. However if your boner's more inclined to surface during discussions with colleagues about a chick who doused herself in gasoline and is now in the ED asking you for a popsicle. . .hang a right.
