I was curious as to what other schools might be doing to help with the hurrican relief effort. I know my class took up money for two people in our class from New Orleans and that our school clinic is waiving fees for eye exams and glasses for those in need. Also, they're trying to find people within the school and alumni who have room to house people in need that are family members or alumni of our school. There's also been an effort to find jobs for optometrists from that area who no longer have the facilities or patients.
I know not all of the optometry schools are as close to this disaster as SCO (there are a couple that are) but I was wondering what kind of actions other schools might be taking.
Just thought it would be an interesting topic...and God bless anyone who is from that area or knows people who are.

I haven’t heard anything directly from the school, other than UH is offering in-state tuition for students affected.
What I’ve gathered from the local media is that they are giving free eye exams and free eye glasses.
Some students were raising cash and clothes, and I also heard that some 2nd years were going to spend the weekend volunteering at the Astrodome.
