So patients with cervical cancer removals seem to have problems with hydronephrosis and patients with prostectomy/bladder surgery seem to have problems with vesiculoureteral reflux.

I am not sure why hydronephrosis cannot occur in prostectomy/bladder surgery patients. Thanks in advance!

Hydro is a sign of obstruction. It is caused by back pressure translated from the site of the obstruction back into the upper renal systems. People with prostate cancer or bladder cancer have hydro because they are obstructed. After removal of the obstruction, the hydro should calm down (as urine flows freely).

Patients with cervical cancer removals should have nothing to do with hydro. The only way hydro develops after OB.GYN surgery is if the "uterosacral ligament" is ligated. I put them in quotes because bad OBs cut the ureters because they "look alike." Only if you cut the ureters during hysterectomy do you create a blockage, thereby leading to obstruction, and subsequent hydro.

Hydro is a sign of more in than out; kidneys keep making urine and fill a tube with a limited (or absent) outlet. When that outlet is opened, hydro resolves (unless very severe, in which case it may be permanent)
