I am a DACA student in NC and my stats are strong, except for the MCAT. If I don't get in this year, I was planning on doing SMP/post-bac. However, I was unable to find any banks that will allow me to take out private loans for the full amount, and I am not eligible for federal aid.

My parents and brother helped me pay for undergrad out of pocket, but they will no longer be able to support me financially going forward through SMP and medical school. With both of those programs being very expensive, working while in school will not be enough to cover all of the expenses. I would appreciate any insight or resources you may have about securing private loans for DACA students.

I know there are some DACA students who are enrolled in medical school so there must be a way, but I am struggling to find information.

Our only success with financing either undocumented students or DACA has been to find a benefactor willing to support the cost of attendance for a given individual.

As you have noted, the usual sources of funding are often earmarked for citizens or permanent residents. We have tried appealing to elected officials as well, to no avail.

I wish I could be of more help.
