So I am on 4 waitlists:

Stony Brook U - WL: January 28th
George Washington U - WL: March 4th
Jefferson Medical College - WL: March 19th
St Louis U - WL: May 7th

The one at JMC is a high priority waitlist... but honestly, this late in the game, how likely is it that I am accepted? I'm pretty anxious at this point, not sure what to do next, either...

Thanks

If you read the jefferson thread, people were saying those on the high prio list had a very good chance. SLU and GWU have good wait list movement normally as most people arent clammoring to go to these places. No idea about stony brook though. Id say you still have a shot 🙂

Even if you're only 15% at each, it's a coinflip. Better than 15%, and you're a favorite.

I'd say you're in a not-hopeless position.

After checking your profile, I'm amazed you have not been accepted, even though you applied late. It's good to remain hopeful, but it's also realistic to plan for another application cycle where you apply early. Hopefully there have been improvements in your application since you last submitted. So work on a new school list. Rewite your PS. Fill out the AMCAS application. If you weren't confident of your LORs, add new ones. Etc.

Agree. You have a shot this cycle, but submit that primary NOW, with new PS. Get a new list of schools and plan to add more later, if necessary.

Don't wait.

I believe all of those schools have a pretty strong waitlist movement. I'd say it is around a coin flip chance. Just get your stuff in for this year to be safe though.

Get your transcripts to AMCAS and while you are waiting rewrite your PS. Submit with only one school to get the ball rolling. It'll mean that you are out $150 or so, but it could make all the difference next year if the WL's don't pan out.

And, if you do get in, you may qualify to get that money back. I got accepted off waitlist in July, after I'd started another round of apps and got a full refund from AMCAS for the second year (it takes some wrangling though).

Actually, that's about 52/48 😉

But yeah, right around 15% is your coinflip, ASSUMING independent trials... You may be way higher simply because you are on the high priority WL at Jeff.

Is that refund policy written anywhere on the site? I'm about to start a new app cycle, but I think I'm going to apply for the FAP... can't afford to spend thousands of dollars again... unless the refund is a more tangible thing....

heh, that actually made me feel a little worse... the irony... in all honesty though, thanks for the comments

Just make a new amcas and only put one school initially so you can get the process rolling. You can easily add stuff later on real quick. Also, speaking from experience, I would just start sending Jefferson something every two weeks. I know Dr. Callahan and especially Dr. Brooks like that stuff. Hopefully it works out. Best of luck!

Definitely send update letters and probably a letter of intent to Jefferson. Maybe one of your recommenders would be willing to make a call to pull for your application to one of the deans?

I just sent an update letter today... I have sent many letters of intent as well, usually together. I can't find Dr. Brooks' email however, if anyone has her email, it would be helpful as I am emailing the adcom and Dr. Callahan every 10 days or so...

I don't know if you have already been doing this but write Dr. Callahan and/or Dr. Brooks at Jefferson to let them know you are still interested in getting off the waitlist. At interview day they said anyone who was waitlisted should write often (weekly) to show interest and it could really help.

Edit: Woops, someone already posted this advice.

One great thing about Jefferson is that everyone's email address is their full name First.Last @ Jefferson.edu. Dr. Brooks email is therefore: [email protected]

I was waitlisted in December by Stonybrook as well. Called them and the admissions mentioned the committee still has not had a meeting yet to decide on waitlist movement. I hope this means that the waitlist is about to start moving in the next few weeks.

You can't really calculate the statistical probability easily because it depends on where you are in the waitlist, how much movement those programs traditionally have and whether they are more/less popular this year. So you can't really aggregate. Think of the waitlist as a life boat. Having one gives you a chance of being rescued. Having 4 might make it easier for rescuers to find you, but it still depends on things like how big a body of water you are in, the number of rescuers looking, how effective their search grid is, the weather, etc.

Beautiful analogy

Beautiful analogy

I am in the same boat, figuratively, in that I'm on 5 waitlists only. However, I think the analogy should be taken further to say that these are life boats, but they've been pushed far away from each other so that they're spread out. Because each waitlist is independent of the others. Even though I have 5 waitlists, I think my waitlists are much bigger longshots than the OP. If I can still have faith, so should you!

Got accepted to Jefferson today!! yeeeah!!!
