I am ORM. Bad idea to mention this in PS?

Did you not even read my post?

This is what you sound like:

Someone with the average MCAT for matriculants (511 or so) is at a DISADVANTAGE because we have another group of applicants (those with 525+ MCATS) that get in 99% of the time! So you should retake that MCAT!

See how silly that sounds? A 511 MCAT isn’t a disadvantage—it’s neutral. A 500 MCAT? Yes, that’s a disadvantage.

Being URM is an advantage for admissions. Being ORM is neutral. Having an IA, criminal record, being a very old applicant... those are all active disadvantages.

URM and ORM are mutually exclusive to each other. MCAT and IA can/does apply to anyone.

That’s also ignoring how IAs and MCAT are the result of conscious choices and decisions while race is not.

Seats are limited. Admissions is a 0 sum game. Leeway for one group takes away from other groups by definition.

By definition? What? First of all, you have absolutely no idea how ad coms view applications. You assume they look at all races and say okay, here let’s pick the black guy. There’s leeway built in for those who have demonstrated Resilience DESPITE test scores? What about the leeway for legacy? Do you understand that question many applicants answer saying “did your family attend” is that also leeway? Looking past mcat scores is not is equivalent to a free pass.

That was literally never the point? Not even close. Having an IA is a disadvantage. Being ORM is not a disadvantage.

Yes it is. And it can be quantified. Take the average MCAT of all accepted applicants and subtract the average MCAT of _____ race. Positive number = advantage. Negative number = disadvantage.

Same for GPA.

Also my point was that you can’t compare something you can’t control to things you can control.

Adding a seat for URMs doesn’t = taking a seat away anyone else

It wasn’t. And I wrote the post.

Do you agree with this statement:

If I am URM, then I have an advantage in medical school admissions.

Trick question?

Don't start backtracking now. You made a definitive statement about white people. I'm a free speech advocate, embrace your racism, I don't mind.
Lol I’m not. I’ll just pretend like your last sentence doesn’t exist. I think most people got the point I was making which was white people are not disadvantaged in America. If you took that literally just to delegitimize me, then one could question why you did that. Do you believe otherwise? Anyway that’s not the point of this thread

Yes, go on pretending, it suits you well.

That’s not how those words work...but we can agree to disagree

As the OP's question has been answered sufficiently, I feel that we gain nothing from further discussion of the topic. I would like to remind everyone that, in the future, please try to stay within the topic of the OP and leave controversial discussion of such matters to the appropriate forum posts. Thank you.
