I am so nervous about bio section.
Some SDNers said that they got the questions from cell bio, genetics, histology and upper level biology, but I only took general biology I and II in school. General biology I and II classes are all that I took in bio department. I don't know anything about higher level biology. I only know the basic contents from the textbook. Do you think that's enough?
Is there anybody who only took General bio I and II, then what score did you get in bio of Dat? I am so nervous and frustrated.

I took the DAT without upper level courses and got a 24 on the bio. Don't freak out. I remember on my test, there was a picture of "something", except it was REALLY easy. I mean, it was a pic that everyone should have known what it was and would be in every freshmen bio book. Just read over your bio book and BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND CONCEPTS; once you can do that, you should be golden. As far as all of the "upper level" stuff, most of them just didn't pay attn in bio 111, 112. I studied Campbell's biology and it was literally like they took questions straight out of it. Know about as much genetics, cell bio and physiology as is in that book (and prolly any other freshmen level book) and you will be fine. Try to really understand it though, don't just read, understand!

Did you just study pics from Campbell? I only have less than 2 weeks left until my test and I was wondering what I should study from Campbell. I believe I have a solid foundation in Bio and I still have to go thru destroyer and practice DAT tests still. How should I utilize my time?

There is no high level biology on the DAT. It is all from the general biology text books. High level bio courses might help but all topics are in gen bio.

I wouldn't worry too much about pics in Campbell's. I'm sure there will be some sort of "picture" on your test, but it will prolly be easy. Don't freak out and just keep up a steady pace with two weeks left. Make sure that you have studied a little immunology and physiology from Campbell's. E.g.- be able to understand, IN GENERAL, how a kidney works, the function of the pancreas, the immune system, circulatory system, liver, etc... Don't worry too much about details, understand main points and you should be okay. But don't kill me if they ask a really specific question, however I don't think they probably will.

with the exception of FRAP, right...? lol
FRAP is in my gen bio text book. I had the LIFE text for my gen bio classes. They have a nice appendix in there that tells you the page of every experimental technique discussed in the book.

I must admit though, the only reason I answered the FRAP question on my DAT correctly was because of my molecular cell bio class.

What about the plants/ecology/evolution part of the textbook? Did you read EVERYTHING in that book?

I'm a slow reading, so could you share with us how you manage to read over the book? Like 2 or 3 chapters each day or something?

Besides Campbell, did you also study off Kaplan, Topscore, Acheiver and stuff?

THANKS!!😀

Yes, you should cover those topics. However, unless you have alot of time to study, I don't think it's a good idea to read the entire book. To me, it is just not an efficient way of studying for bio section. Of course, if you don't understand a specific topic, then it would be helpful to read that specific section of the book. Otherwise, I would just stick to Kaplan, Topscore, Achiever, and other review books to study for bio.
I am going to write a blog on how i studied for bio section soon. So check out my blog once in a while

Thank you! I've checked out your website already. Thanks for doing it! I'll be waiting for your advice on the bio session.
