I paid the application fee, submitted everything, found out my DAT expired, MWU-AZ's MA program starts in 2 weeks. MA program will be very difficult and studying for DAT will be really hard. Got a 20 last time and doubt I can do higher....am I totally screwed? My GPA isn't great, but 1 year of post-bacc brought it up to a 3.0........ Feels like I just threw $2600 down the drain...

sorry to hear that bud. seeing as how you already spent 2600, you may have to retake the exam as soon as you can.

however, if money isn't an object, just take the dat sometime later in the academic year and prepare for the next cycle (having a masters will also help you out tremendously, assuming that you do well).

good luck to you.

Ya I'm trying to study as hard and as fast as I can, but after 3 years of not studying DAT, a lot of basic science took longer to memorize. It's terrible lol

I would just take the DAT! What's another $300 in the scheme of things, especially when you already have $2600 invested in this cycle. I would just take it again, even if that means less than a perfect score. That's just me, I wouldn't want to let that cash go down the drain like that either. Let us know what you decide! And best of luck if you decide to take it!

How many times have you taken the DAT? You have to retake it no matter what because it's expired, but if you've already taken it twice, I wouldn't try to cram and do "OK" on it. You only get 3 attempts. But, if you've only taken it once, start studying, retake it, and get it in for this cycle. If it doesn't work out or you do poorly, then you can take it again in the Spring, preparing for next cycle.

I took it twice and I took the 2nd time in 2009. Has anyone taken it more than 3 times? If possible I want to take it during mid september so that its not sooooo late. I doubt 2 weeks is enuf studying for me to take it late august

You can petition to take it more times, but I don't know how that process works or how often they approve it.

Don't rush to take the DAT until your fully prepared because with your GPA you need to do better than previous attempt.

I think that would be true for acceptance this cycle, but if you get a 19 or 20 again and do well in your masters program you should be in good shape for next cycle.

ya.....I don't know...feels like either way im done for...

Hey I start the Midwestern MA program in the fall too. It will definitely be really tough to try and take the DAT again for this cycle, but for the sake of not blowing $2600 down the drain I would say at least take a practice test and see how reasonable it is to pull a 20+ score in such a short time frame. Worst come to worse some of us class mates can help you out with condensed class notes, recordings, etc.
Keep your head up!
