hi guys i am sooo worried if i will even hear from schools for an interview. I basically submitted my application on june 4rth and completed all the secondaries by end of june. I took my DAT for the first time in june and got:

PAT 18
QR 15
RC 18
Bio 19
GC 17
OC 16
TS 18
AA 17

After sending those scores to schools, i didnt feel competitive enough and retook the dat on September 21 and got:

PAT 17
QR 17
RC 17
Bio 18
GC 19
OC 20
TS 19
AA 18

I faxed an unofficial copy to all the schools i applied to and also through ADA. My GPA isnt that stellar like most of you folks. its 3.4 overall and sGPA is 3.20 and BCP is 3.26. My first two years of college werent that great basically got a 3.0 gpa for the first three semsters but the last two years i rocked it with close to 4.0 gpa every semester with a lot of upper level courses. My extra curriculars and letters of recommendations are strong and I took alot of hardcore upper level science courses and got all As.

I applied to UIC, SIU, Marquette, Temple, USC, Creighton, Western , Louisville, NYU, Tufts, Michigan, U detroit mercy, Midwestern (rejected) and ASDOH (rejected).
DO you guys even think il get some interviews???

hey...

it's obvious you are putting a lot of effort and work into getting into dental school. pick a couple or as many of your favorite schools you have left and see if you can visit their campuses. for example i know USC is going to have something on oct. 30 and nov. 20. that upward trend in your grades is clutch btw. keep in contact with the schools that haven't rejected you and make sure that your application is complete everywhere. give midwestern a call and ASDOH a call, and inquire into the weaknesses of your application. than try to strengthen what midwestern and asdoh considered your weaknesses to be, because those may be the same weaknesses that other schools see. stay upbeat and stay positive. the cycle is not over yet, you can still take classes, volunteer, etc to strengthen your application. remember in november, AADSAS will provide an opportunity to update your academic history.

western has an information session i think on october 17. try to go check that out. i cannot attend unfortunately but it is probably a good way to get noticed by schools.

Marquette is done for the year, Creighton is done for pre Dec, Louisville was giving mid Nov spots, NYU still gives mid Oct invites, Tufts just gave first round by the sound of it will only fill those invites that did not accepted first round, Temple should be giving few more for Nov invites. SIU will be sending their invites mid Oct/ last year it was Oct 13/ and UIC started already. Last year UIC interviewed only 60 app pre Dec.
Those are expectations judging by last year trends. I have not applied to Mich, UDM or Western so have not followed.
Out of schools you applied USC, NYU, Tufts are schools that give a pretty decent number of post Dec invites.

Tufts only fills about 1/4th of their seats Dec. 1. They fill the last 1/4th of their seats in like March, and half in between. A lot of people who get accepted also don't attend tufts, as that's many people's backup schools. Keep that in mind.

Where did u get this info from?

The "tufts interview" threads for 08 and 09 on SND.

So your saying that they only give ~1/4 of pre dec 1st interviewees acceptances, i doubt it. Only 30-40 seats filled dec seems like very little, i doubt it.

I think you mixing up Tufts with USC. This is post form USC student of last year:

"I don't have all the exact answers but I can give you what I know. USC is notorious for filling their class late in the cycle. From the school's website: "Generally, the class is assembled on the following cycle: December 1 – one quarter; March - one quarter, mid-April - one quarter, end of May - one quarter." (http://uscsd03.usc.edu/dental/admiss...re+Information)

I do know from following theses boards for many cycles that there are abundance of students who interview well after Dec, Jan, Feb who are ultimately accepted.

Word on the street however is this year they are holding more pre-Dec 1st interviews which may skew things a bit this cycle and fill the class up a tad earlier than in the past. __________________

yea, I am starting to get worried too..I submitted end of june and took my DATs in Aug..I wonder if the schools will ever reply..I've heard that some schools never give us an answers.iono if that is true..

Tufts appears to interview rather late in the season. You might want to check out some preliminary/anecdotal evidence in the link.

It is a little hard to stand out when the stats are mediocre.

I dont get what you mean by that??

Well im going off another chart you also compiled that stated ~70% of the total number of applicants interviewed at tufts got accepted....so applying that to roughly 100 pre dec1st interviews i would say about ~60-70 acceptances.....but that is just estimating and i might be wrong...

I believe he meant the applicant's stats.

Yes, even if we use your stats, thats about half the class. Now, how many people who get accepted to TUFTS on December 1 will eventually attend? My guess would be less than half. This is not harvard... there is a reason why Tufts stats are so much lower than you'd expect. Tufts is a very expensive private school. Those that get accepted December 1 are VERY qualified applicants who will likely use Tufts as a "backup" school. Once they get into their top choice, theyll withdraw from Tufts. Many won't even pay their deposit because they got accpeted to multiple spots Dec 1. That's why tufts always give away a TON of interviews after December, and why they don't even come close to filling all 100+ seats by December. I don't think I've met anyone who says Tufts is their #1 school, yet almost everyone east of Texas applies to Tufts.

THIS IS NOT LONGER THE CASE.

I really think this is due to the completion of the Vertical Expansion, and the confidence of the Tufts administration in the new renovations and the strength of the school's curriculum and reputation. It may sound crazy and outrageous to some of you (especially to those who haven't actually visited many schools), but some of my classmates turned Columbia, UPenn, UoP, UCLA, Stony Brook in-state, UConn, UIC in-state, UMDNJ in-state, Pittsburgh, Maryland, and Buffalo to come to Tufts. Crazy, huh? I think the number of people that did this led to the Tufts administration moving the interviews to mostly PRE-December 1st, starting this year.[/QUOTE]

So basically how many invites do you think Tufts will give for after dec. 1st? Slim pickings or roughly the same as prior?? (I know you may not have actual numbers just wanted your opinion since your there and I missed the first round)

there is 185 invites given out for pre Dec interview which is size of incoming class, 13 dates 15 people each.
While 70% is overall acceptance at Tufts, pre Dec could be slightly higher and late Feb- March could be as low as 25-30% because people will be competing for less spots. If you received your package you will see that while class size increase amount of interviews decrease as more people sends deposits to Tufts rather sooner than later.
Tufts has been repeatedly named DS with happiest students so visiting this school is a must for people who are considering Tufts.

Lets see how happy those students are when their 5k a month tuition repayment bills start coming in after graduation

Tufts is the same price as many private schools(Western, USC, Midwestern, NYU, etc.) Also tuition is about the same as BU. Why dont these schools get alot of crap for being to expensive(well they do sometimes) Personally tufts is one of my top choices, i like a big class size and a city life. Only school i would choose besides it is western or usc cuz its extremely close to home. So i def wouldnt call tufts a "back up school"
