I am now in my 2nd yr. i'm interested in being a doctor and researcher.

But I am so confused; I don't knw where to go from here...

These are what I knw: high ugpa and MCAT, participate in summer research program, and leadership in an extracurricular activities, or quality of time in a volunteer program. In addition go to medical school if you want to become a doctor, and get a master degree if you want to be a researcher.

Apart from these I am clueless. I don't know when to even take my MCAT, either my junior or senior year because so far I am only done with biology, and now taking chemistry. I have not done physics and organic chem. yet.

Secondly, I don't know which major to go for? I am very interested in biology, chemistry and drawing. I thought of majoring in biology, but I would not get a job that interest me after my undergraduates (teacher or preserving of wild life). So my second thought was Chemistry since I think it will enhance my skills in lab; and thirdly was getting a pharm d. to be a pharmacist (which will enhance my research skills) and also grant me a stable income.

I just want an interesting (research) and stable job to do after my bachelor degree b4 go'n to medical school. Because i want to pay up loans b4 add'n MD loans, and also a job which will enhance my reseach skills. should I stick with majoring in biology plus get'n a certificate in clinical laboratory science/medical technology? or take a new path?
And when shld i take my mcat?

Please help me, help me make the right decision. For now I don't have any premed advisor, neither do I have a mentor. I have being reading a lot from this website, and I think and have hope I will get right answers from here....so please give your advice. Thank you

I am now in my 2nd yr in a community college, plann' to transfer to a four yr college. Since I was a kid it has always been my passion to help others, be there for them, save lives. It occurred to me in de begin'n of last yr I want to be a medical doctor (I was afraid to arrive at this decision b4 from the fear of blood, but i knw w/ tym i will get over that) and also i'm very intrested in being a researcher such as finding cures to hereditary diseases.

Typically the MCAT is taken the spring of your junior year.

Pursue a major that interests and is something you would and could pursue a career in if you don't get into medical school. Pharm school is a whole different can of worms so to speak, and not something I am particularly knowledgeable about (except to say the obvious, get good grades and do well on the PCAT).

Anyone on here will tell you don't just do a bunch of research for the simple fact that it will look good on your application. If you do want to do research, try to do it in an area that interests you. The same in regards to working and paying off your undergrad loans prior to medical school. Work in an area that you like as opposed to just having a job for its value on paper...most med schools will read that like a book.

I would suggest you search specific questions; there is a wealth of information on this site about the exact same things that you are asking.

Good luck

Now I know I shouldn't concentrate too much on get'n exp. in de research field.... I'll rather be involved w/ a specific research program that interest me......The only thing now is figuring out the right major to go for. Thank you very much for your advice i really appreciate it.

You should go talk to a pre-med advisor. They can lay the entire process out for you.

In addition go to medical school if you want to become a doctor, and get a master degree if you want to be a researcher.

You do not have to get a masters degree to be a researcher. If all you want to do is research, a PhD might be better suited to your needs, or a combined MD/PhD program (which, by the way, you wouldn't need many, if any, loans for, since there's a stipend associated with it.

I'm confused. Are you interested in teaching, or not interested? If you are, biology is a great degree to have. If not, biochemistry will probably be better suited to getting you a degree in a lab. Also, if you want to do research, doing clinical laboratory science/medical technology won't really get you there. Those are the technologists that work in a clinical laboratory, running lab tests on patients to determine what's wrong with them. In other words, all those blood, urine, and stool samples that the doctor orders taken to determine what's wrong with you will be analyzed by medical technologists. It's not research.

As far as your PharmD option... Pharmacy school is a whole other can of worms that requires a whole bunch of different classes and can be just as intense as medical school, so it's not something you should pursue unless you want to be a pharmacist (just as you should not pursue medical school if you don't want to be a physician).

Thanks so much for your advice.... it clarify a lot of things: the PharmD option, MT program..and esp thanks for mention'n about the MD/PhD program..I will surely look into it.

my other question is (well if you knw 🙂) wat jobs can I get w/ B.degree in Biochemistry? is there a lot of options compared with majoring in biology?

"de begin'n?"

Nice one OP, I actually lol'd.

There is no one way this is real. Anyone stupid enough to actually talk this way would not be smart enough to use apostrophes and punctuation artistically to create this peculiar diction.

This would make an awesome opening sentence for a book.
