If you want to be a dentist apply to dental school. Do your best in school/DAT/EC's and then apply. I come here for points of view but definately not for validation.

So... you're saying I have a shot?😉

Not to sound harsh, but I sort of agree. Sure, it makes you feel happy when people on here say "oh sure, I know someone who has been accepted with your stats." I liked this too. Fact of the matter is every situation is different. If you have a 2.9, and good DAT scores, you may get in while another with better stats may not just by luck of the draw. What I don't understand is people that come on here and say "Yeah, I have a 3.4 GPA with 22/23/20 DAT scores. Do you think I have a shot?" Duh yeah. 😕

Of course we're tired of "what are my chances" threads, but thats because we've been around here for awhile. When we first started, we all asked the same thing because we were insecure and worried about our chances. Just remember the people that helped you when you were first putting together your application...this is your chance help someone else.

Heh I was thinking about how I should post a thread like this earlier today. Then I got home and it was there!

Someone should just make a sticky thread for 'what are my chances?' 😛 Give some example stats and say whether or not the applicant has a good shot at getting accepted. May shut some people up!

i would say that once your cycle is over you are banned from SDN! lol

The point of this board is to seek the advice of those who have already been where you intend to go. Every year it's always the same -- I've seen a couple cycles. These guys are the same posters who will be freaking about Dec. 1st next year and will be asking where they should attend. There's even a thread like this one each year. If you don't feel like leaving feedback for curious newbies then don't, but don't censor their right to solicit advice and information.

I'm tired of studying, but I still do it.

If you don't like them, don't open them up. Just scroll to the other topics like:

OMG! NYU😀

😎

I like them a lot. I can't help it...I open every one that I see.

I like very much......very nice!

well said

funny thing is that most of the people who post "i hate what are my chances" threads or support these threads were asking about their chances not too long ago. when it comes time to return the favor, they b!tch and moan

i'll echo everyone else and say that if you're tired of them, get off sdn because honestly if you think what are my chances threads are annoying, imagine how annoying everyone must find your threads complaining about how annoying you think they are

get a life👎

More then half the people who post "What are my chances" can easily find their answer by doing a search of the forum, or some research on the net.

What are my chances?

Stats:
32
24
36
and milky white.

i think that anyone asking "what are my chances... " all theyre really asking for is for reassurance, support, motivation, by their peers. yeah..they can always just use the search function... but. its always good to hear someone in the same boat as you say, "yeah you still have a chance."
theres no harm in showing some support!

I remember when I first found SDN and I posted a thread asking how well I needed to do on the DAT to be competitive. I got worked by a ton of people bitching and moaning about "Oh my god, I hate these threads" and even a "Get a life dude, you know you'll get in." Point being, no matter what anyone's GPA or extracirriculars are, they are still going to be somewhat insecure about whether or not they are going to get in. And while none of us can really answer that for sure, it's nice to hear some encouraging words, or at least some sound sdvice if it is needed.

As previously stated, if you don't "like" them, DON'T READ THEM. I read some when I am in the mood and when I'm not, I don't. I do think it would be a great idea to make a sticky "WHAT ARE MY FREAKIN' CHANCES?" thread that would be open for people to post and respond. That way everything would be in one place and people could compare different stats with theirs. That would at least clean up the board a little. Talk to the mods. 👍

I'm somewhere in the middle on these types of posts.

If you post your GPA 3.2+, and DAT scores all 20+, then it's annoying.

If you post something like 2.9 and 17/17/17, then it might be nice to hear some anecdotes about people either getting in or getting rejected with similar stats (although it probably won't help much). I don't mind it as much if people are genuinely unsure about their chances.

But spare us the posts where you're just looking for people to say "NICE STATS!!!"
