can someone please brief me on the USMLE's?

how long are the exams? what's the difference b/w "Steps"? is step III optional, like the sat II's were? heh.. somehow i doubt that..

what's a good score? a great one?
do med schools help you prepare for it specifically, or are you on your own like on the MCAT?

wtf is the COMLEX? canadian?

thanks.

Check out www.usmle.org for an explanation for what's on the steps. Step I is 8 hours long (7 one hour blocks and break time), Step IICK (part I)is 9 hours long (8 one hour blocks plus break), Step IICS (part II) or the CSA is also one day as well and not many people have experience with this as it isn't required until the graduating class of 2005, and Step III is two 8 hour days. Step III is not optional if you want to practice medicine in any specialty in the U.S. Med schools will teach you the material needed but you'll need to be motivated and study a lot on your own for good scores. The COMLEX is the licensing exam for our Osteopathic friends. I hear it's similar to the USMLE with some material on OMT.
