Greetings.
I am going through some anxiety right now. I am sophomore 3 semesters deep with a 3.65 Cum Gpa but a 3.4 science GPA. I dropped a C plus in Orgo 1, and a B in this 5 credit Calculus class I took over the summer.

I am jumping through the loops in other regards (shadowing, volunteer at a hospital, doing a service trip thtis spring break, have a research job lined up for the summer)

I guess my question is
A. When they look at ur GPA, how much do they look into science gpa vs CUM GPA.. I have never dropped anyhitng but an A in a non science course, but do they even care about those grades or do they just expect as?
i know mcat proably carries a huge weight too.. but it is it possible to get into med school with a 3.4 science gpa but perhaps a 3.6 cumulative gpa

any advice would be appreciated
eduardo

Yes, it is possible to get accepted to medical school with a 3.4 sGPA, 3.6 cGPA, and a C+ in Orgo provided the other aspects of your application are solid. But you're only a sophomore. Make sure you're not neglecting your studies while jumping through the other required "hoops". You can always take an extra year to do more research or get more volunteer experience if needed. But whatever you do, do NOT screw up your GPA. It is extremely hard to repair once it's trashed. Do what you need to do in order to get as many A's as you can from here on out.

thanks for the advice i dropped c on the first Ochem test Will continue to battle

the mcat is equally if not more important than gpa, so if you do good on the mcat then you should be fine, a few bad grades here and there can easily be overlooked by a good mcat score

Not always. Depends on how low the GPA is. If you read this forum long enough, you'll find several examples of individuals with < 3.4 and 35+ MCAT who have not been able to get accepted. OP, I would strongly suggest not letting your sGPA drop below a 3.4. Do everything you can to pull it up. Good luck.

That is true, i meant that a 3.5 and a 35 is much better than someone with a 3.8 and a 30. Its just safer if you have above a 3.65 and 31, that way your better than avg in both cases

You still have some time to boost your GPA. Prioritize that over other activities.

Good luck!

thanks for all the advice everybody, good luck to you all too

You still have time to balance the c+ out with some As... don't give up! Work hard and study for your MCATs!
