I dont understand corpus Luteum, Corpus Albicans

Hey guys,

No matter how much I study this stuff, I just can't seem to get it. What is Corpus ALbicans, luteum, what do they do,

I read it and forget them the very instant...someone please explain these to me and help me understand them so I can better memorize them...

Corpus albicans - The white fibrous scar tissue in an ovary that results after the involution and regression of the corpus luteum

Corpus luteum - A yellow, progesterone-secreting mass of cells that forms from an ovarian follicle after the release of a mature egg.

In simple terms, corpus albicans is what forms after the breakdown of corpus luteum by macrophages. If the egg is not fertilized, the corpus luteum stops secreting progesterone and decays (after approximately 14 days in humans). It then degenerates into a corpus albicans, which is a mass of fibrous scar tissue.
Corpus luteums is essential for establishing and maintaining pregnancy in females because it secretes estrogens and progesterone. These steroid hormones thicken the endometreum plus help its development (estrogen) and maintenance (progesterone).

i'd never heard of the albicans one...where did you read it...is it in kaplan blue book? i don't remember reading it 😕

guess it just shows how we gotta supplement w/other sources for bio :scared:
 
I'm going over Bio section of Kaplan Blue book and also don't remember anything on the Corpus Albicans.
 
Go to Destroyer # 39 in the Bio section.

part B)--the correct version is that if fertilization does not occur, corpus luteum turns into corpus albicans, not the polar body.

They just sound so weird...

Now that I've finished Kaplan, destroyer and Top Score, I am on Achiever and there is this question in the bio section that says that,

"ovulation will be unlikey if estrogen and progesterone are high in the blood because of negative feedback inhibition that is released via the anterior pituitary.

I didn't know that the anterior pituitary released that stuff...I never knew this question, I thought that estrogen and progesterone were good hormones that helped ovulation.....are they antagonists? what's up with them...do estrogen and Prog. hate eachother? Did they have a fight? Who won? was anyone injured? is their violent video on www.youtube.com?

sorry, Im going crazy here...been studying for 3 months straight and am going insane a bit...

please explain the bad blood between Miss Estrogen and Queen Progesterone.
 
Haha..ok well i think I can answer your question. Estrogen and progesterone don't hate each other they actually work together to help build up the endometrium to get ready for implantation of a zygote.

What you should know is that estrogen and progesterone inhibits the secretion of FSH and LH from the anterior pitutary gland in a negative feedback manner.

If no zygote is implanted then estrogen and progesterone levels drop and LH and FSH are once again secreted to mature a new follicle which will eventually allow a new egg to be released.

This cycle repeats itself every month or 28 days.

Definately review what the anterior pitutary releases and what it stimulates it's one of the most important endocrine organs.
