Sigh... I am Senior now. Ochem and Biochem beat the hell out of me. My GPA is only 2.98. I have about 3 quarters away from graduation.

I haven't taken my DAT yet, I am planning to study DAT and volunteer full-time after graduation.

I don't know if I still have a chance to get into dental school. I am worried because of my grade. I am doing a undergraduate research right now. I probably can have a paper at the end.

:scared::scared::scared:

Any suggestions about what I should do?? Thank you guys!

go to predents.com to look up other ppl with your gpa that have gotten in to school..you will need a very high DAT score obviously but it is still possible to get in.

Most likely you need a Masters (SMP) with 3.8-4.0, as well as a high DAT (20-21 AA).

If you were to skip the Masters and just focus on the DAT, you'd probably need a 23+ AA to go with your 3.0 GPA...

DEFINITELY apply for a Master's program while your'e in your last year of undergrad so that you can start it the fall after you graduate. I wish I would have done that, but I am finishing up my 1-year Master's in biochemistry in a month or so, having graduated from undergrad 4 years ago

Thank you guys!

What does the SMP stand for? Senior Master Program😕

Did you say 1-year Master's???

special master program=SMP, i think getting 3.8-4.0 is nearly impossible for SMP

apply and see what happens. hit up like 20 schools (if you don't mind the $$$) and maybe you get a hit. i got offered a masters program spot by 2 schools that ended up rejecting me (louisville and UMKC), maybe that would have been a good plan B. if you've gotta do a masters, then maybe it's beneficial to take one at a dental school you'd like to attend. if you do well on the DAT you're still in the game.

As a possible ray of hope, I had a similar science GPA 2.99, which was lifted to 3.01, just before I applied, and I managed to get in because I totally aced the DAT, and I applied to 23 schools (a great suggestion - though costly). I think other EC's that you're doing like research will really contribute to your application, especially if you produce a paper - my interviewers were extremely impressed when I was able to hand them a copy of an abstract I had accepted for publication.

Lastly, and no means should this be taken lightly, was there anything in your personal life that significantly impacted your academic performance? If so, there is a section on the application for this, and I can tell you from personal experience that Adcoms take this very seriously.

The odds are definetly against you here, but it's not impossible, and even if it may take you a few more years, I think that if you work hard enough and put your all into it, you'll be able to get into dental school.

Good luck, and keep on keeping on.
