Hi guys, I am currently applying for pharmacy schools, and I've already received interviews at some places.

Today, I realized that I took some college courses at a summer program for high school kids. I completely forgot all about them, and I wasn't even sure if they were actual college courses, but I'm pretty sure they are now.

I already submitted my PharmCAS a long time ago, and I already did the academic update. What should I do? The courses I took don't count for anything toward pre-requisites, but I know PharmCAS has a scary message saying I must report all coursework.

If I submit this new coursework, would it get all my other interviews cancelled as well, as colleges are going to receive "new" grades from 2005, and therefore they'd think I wasn't being truthful about my coursework? Also, the grades I received weren't that stellar (I think it was an A and a C+ if I remember correctly). I really wish I had remembered before so I could avoid the trouble in the first place.

Whoops. Call your schools and get in touch with PharmCAS.

I agree with charfdorn. Get in touch with them ASAP. The last thing you need is for them to do a verification (the sites they use have been listed here before) of your academic background and see that shiny little blip come up.

Do you think sending an e-mail is enough, or should I call them directly? I guess it's really important to get this through.

Also, what do you think this means for me in terms of my interviews? I really hope they see this as an honest mistake, not me trying to pull something.

If you call them today and explain what happened in honest, full, no excuse terms then it won't be viewed as sleight of hand.

Do it. And do it really damn soon. A character and fitness problem is not something you want to deal with!!! Maybe they'll tell you it's no big deal and not to worry. Maybe not... but you don't want to risk it.

I'd call them all, definitely... why risk it? That's just my opinion.

Hmm...thats actually a hard question.

1)Do you risk them throwing out your papers all together without a shot at an interview due to your mistake? (this depends on what you got on your courses)

2) Or do you risk going to interview- making a good impression and explaining in person your mistake.


I think it all depends on what was the nature of your Grades. If its A's, I would go with option 1. If you got B's/C's which would make a notable impact on your gpa...then perhaps option 2.

I dunno thats hard. Either way you have to explain it, and I guess what I'm saying- is that option A- might not even give you a SHOT at schools. But then again it depends on grades.

For more hypotheticals, let's say that OP never had the chance during the interview to disclose. Often, the interviews don't allow for a lot of random "Hey by the way..." etc. It's much better to clear the air, prior... but again, my opinion and I'm a "truth hurts but it's always the best policy" kind of guy.

I agree with everything you said. Plus OP does have interviews already, so OP is probably fine.

So here's what I did, in case anyone else does something as stupid as I did:

I went ahead and called all the places where I had interviews, and most all of them said no problem, with the exception of one school (incidentally one of my top choices), who said they want the transcripts first before they make any decisions, which is completely fair given the circumstances.

For the schools that did not contact me yet for interviews, I have (for now) decided not to contact them, and instead just send PharmCAS the transcript and have PharmCAS send it out to the schools. I do this for two reasons. 1) I contacted PharmCAS, and they said as long as they get the transcript from this summer program, they will wait until my academic update is also in and then send all the grades together. 2) 8 of the 9 schools I contacted said it was no problem at all, as long as I send PharmCAS my transcript along with my academic update as well. I know it's a bit risky to do this, and I may just end up calling all of them eventually.

From what I've experienced, I think the schools have generally been pretty understanding of what I did. I think they realize that it was an honest mistake and that I wasn't trying to trick anyone with my scores. The grades I received (A, C+, and a Pass) really won't drastically affect my GPA that much (maybe by 0.02 or something), so it's not like I had something huge to hide.

Thanks a lot for all your help. I've been kicking myself all day for doing something so stupid, and I was really expecting a lot of flaming for me being dumb (I kinda deserve it today haha), but thanks for giving me some good advice.
