I get great evaluations but always screw up the shelf. Am I screwed?

I've completed 2 rotations so far and got great evaluations from my attendings in both. Thing is, the shelf exam at my school counts for a large portion of our grade. Even if you get the world's greatest evals, if you don't make the shelf exam score cutoff, you'll still end up with a "Satisfactory" (which is what I got for both rotations).

I certainly study, but I can't seem to do well on these damned shelfs. Will a 3rd year transcript full of passes ruin my chances at a decent residency spot in a moderately competitive field?

The cutoff to receive honors is usually in the low 80s, and I always seem to score on the mid 70s. :(
