Hi everyone, I have a good GPA so far as a freshman, but I know I have a lot of time to go. I recently received a C+ in a non science course. It was a National Security class completely unrelated to medicine at all. I'm good at science, I trust myself in those classes but I'm worried this is going to stick out like a sore thumb. I'm probably okay, but I'm just looking for some reassurance.

No, especially given you have a good GPA so far as a freshman (with competitive science pre-requisites) and have a lot of time to go as an undergraduate college student. A single C+ in a non-science course will not torpedo your chances.

It's a common pre-med delusion that one has a to have a 4.0 to get into med school.

You could have failed the course and still get into med school.

A poor grade is not a reflection of your character, nor is it a measure of your self-worth.

The best thing you can do is take more rigorous coursework and do well in them as you progress. A singular grade will not make or break an application, but many schools will ask you to describe why you received a grade below a threshold if applicable (B-, C+, etc). For this reason, it will stick out, but as long as you continue to do well in your coursework and don't take "easy" classes just to "fix" a GPA, you will be competitive.
