On the plus sideI’m struggling to think of more than a few other classes which hold less bearing on ones ability be an exceptional physician than freshwater ecology lol
Thanks! I just can't believe I let this class get the better of me. I took it for the easy A. I'm just so incredibly frustrated right now. I just honestly can't believe it, and am really looking forward to chatting with my professor about how she calculated this.

It’s an a-, I get it. It sucks, especially when you know that you had the ability to earn an A but in the end it’s not going to sink your application, hell by graduation it won’t even have a noticeable impact on your gpa. Just put it behind you and focus on how you can continue to improve your app.

The replies on this thread are hilarious. I also do get it that the you felt so close to an A, an A- can seem annoying, but you are so fine in medical admissions don't worry. Most people do not have straight A's (myself included) 🙂

I'm in complete shock right now. How the HELL. So frustrated just need to vent
You're frustrated with an A-??????

Just a word of warning...this is not the mindset we want to see in candidates. People like this are either in our offices complaining about their exam score of 91 should actually be a 92, and then present some contortions of mathematics that space-time starts to warp and my office then exceeds the speed of light.

Never got anything lower than an A since I started college, I graduate in a year. Just hate to see it be this class.

Think of this as of scratching your phone. Of course it is sad but the good think is after that you will not be that obsessed with it and will be just using it. Same for your transcript.

LOL

Thanks guys! I'm just going to take this with a grain of salt and move forward. I will still visit her office to see if there are any points I can quickly gather, but if not, it won't be the end of my journey to becoming a physician.

It may be the beginning.

I'm applying next year!
Not with an A- in Freshwater Ecology, you aren’t...

However, there’s still a shot. Most people only know of two kinds of doctors - DOs and MDs, but did you know there’s a THIRD KIND!? Maybe Podiatric School is a good option! Just opt-in for “partner offers” and you’ll learn all about it.

Vent somewhere else.

The people who have the most problem during residency are the people with this mindset of perfectionism. They're unable to handle anything other than what they think is the best possible outcomes. Patient's don't read books on how diseases present and how they respond to treatment. And there's too much work to do to be able to do everything perfectly. Prioritize and move on. Learn to accept defeat and failure. Your humility as a physician will carry you further than how perfectly you can do something. That, or you'll learn soon enough what humility truly is from a massive failure or from an attending.

It’s good that it’s happening now because in med school, plenty of people who were at the top of their classes in college are happy to be passing.

It's interesting that you compared the grade to a scratched phone. I would actually be more upset about a scratched phone especially if I just got it. As for the grade, I would just be happy that my score was above a B.

Given the OPs anxiety it seems that he/she would rather scratched their brand new iPhone all over the screen than getting that A-

I was thrilled to get an A in physics (I frankly still have no idea how I managed that)--but I would have been just as happy with a B because one bad test made it a struggle to get back to the top. You're never going to survive with a perfectionist's mindset because it also implies you've never had to overcome any struggles.

I got a B in a fictional writing course. All we did was write fanfic and talk in a circle. The instructor said I didn’t speak enough and thus did not deserve an A (grades were subjective)

Back in my undergrad, I did a Bachelor's in English literature. I got a C in a Writings in Fiction course, mostly because I forgot there was an essay due and never turned it in. At that time, I was suffering senioritis and just didn't care. I graduated with a GPA of 3.4. I could have done better in my undergrad, but I pulled up my GPA anyway with the prerequisites I had to do when I started back two years ago. I don't know how it is with med school, but for PT school, no one cared that I had gotten that C. For them, it was the prerequisites that mattered most.

Oh yeah, I know. It doesn’t bother me at all now. Just hoping to provide OP some comfort lol

Very true haha. An iPhone can always be replaced!

Idk if that makes you feel better but just know that I got a B because I’m an introvert.

This is ridiculous. I basically got straights Bs and I'm doing fine this cycle.

All A- is a 3.7... that's about the median at most MD schools.
