Hello guys, I am new to SDN and definitely needs your help!
I took some post bacc classes at community college and I got D for Human Anatomy III (A for lecture and F for lab as I screwed lab final=total of B, however due to school policy if fail lab, fail entire course). I got B's for both I and II, however, I failed lab this quarter due to poor time management. So, I was wondering if I should just apply with what I have right now (GPA of cgpa 3.64 sgpa 3.33 for undergraduate, post bacc would be ), or retake summer course? The problem is, I am almost done with my primary application (still waiting for transcript to get through and waiting for last LORs), and my original plan was to submit the application no later than end of June. I am taking MCAT on 6/29/18 and has been getting scores from 505-508 from practice exams. I have decent EC's and solid LORs! And I am applying for both MD and DO.

Thank you!

Should retake. Adcoms don’t look kindly to anything below a C, especially in a science class that you’ll be taking in med school.

Yeah... my only concern was that if I retake the course, I can submit transcript after the course is over, which is going to be around early-mid September....

Anatome III is not a pre-req. I don't think you should retake. If you score between a 505-508 you'll be pretty competitive for DO and some MD schools so I think you should just go for it. Don't bother submitting now though since you won't have your MCAT score until July 29th anyways. Might as well wait until after taking your MCAT then spend that extra month working on your application while you wait for the score.

Just because a class isn't a pre-req doesn't mean it's not significant or won't negatively affect chances of matriculation. With the attitude OP has towards time management, that kind of mentality will not work in medical school and can be detrimental.

Considering your lowish sGPA, a more detailed perusal of your transcript is inevitable. Seeing a D for a med-school-relevant class immediately prior to applying will not miraculously end well for you. I suggest not just repeating the class, but adding a few more courses besides that to demonstrate that the poor grade was an anomaly. Put off applying until your transcript speaks better of your potential.

So.... you're planning on applying to medical school, so you go ahead and get a D right before? Why are you even considering applying school right now? Your head obviously isn't in the game. Better that you get a wake up call now than you somehow get accepted and flunk out of classes your first year of medical school after going into debt.
