Heck yeah...now my neck doesnt have to hurt anymore trying to hold those phones on my shoulder taking those copies and can actually walk around while trying to tell Mrs. B that her meds are not ready to be refilled yet.

Sweet.👎

Congrats! You have taken the final steps to remove any and all separation between your staff and the staff at McDonalds.

Fine tune things some more. How about a cath bag so you do not have to go to the bathroom on your 14 hour shifts?

Not a bad idea.....the phone does not ring that much where I work but if it does there then.....😎

Plus, neck pain is a b*tch!!

I don't really care. It is more efficient for my staff and tell that to the geniuses that thought putting a drive thru in my pharmacy and all other pharmacies is a good idea. It's no different than mcdonalds so why try to make my life harder when mcdonald's staff uses it and it's efficient for them. Pharmacy is what it is, a business and i dont care. Heck, we can all come to work in shorts and tshirts and the customers would not care as long as they get their drugs in 5 mins so i've quit with caring how "professional" it is when people just treat you worst than mcdonald's staff anyway. As far as the speakerphone, it gets noisy and you can't possibly have 5 people all on speakerphone at the same time and yes, i dont want to have the whole world hearing what the patient on the phone is saying or if doctor y is calling in someone's herpes medications. Plus our pharmacy is that busy (600+) and we get calls every 15 seconds it seems so imagine 6+ people all on speakerphone at once...that is not going to work.

Simple, your business, run it your way!! No need to explain...I think it is a decent idea....with that volume.

Patients who are at pick up when I'm using the drop off can hear my voice when I'm on the phone.

But, they cant hear both sides of the conversation. You know there are folks listening. The other person on the speaker may not know they are on speaker and say something they should not.

I use it sometimes when I am on hold....but that is it.

Beware of the HIPPO!! or HIPAA..

haha...my old job had these $300 plantronics headsets....my coworkers would literally go to the bathroom mid-call with them on and handle business while doing their business. freakin' nasty, but it worked!

HIPAA sucks. Apparently we can't discuss cases that we see on our rotations with our classmates even if we remove patient identification markers. 🙄

Oh man, imagine if the pharmacist did that.

Pharmacist: Hey, I'm calling to verify the dosage on a script for John Doe. *Plop* *Plop*
Doc: What was that?
Pharmacist: Oh, nothing. *Toilet flush*

who made up that rule? that makes no sense....our professors talk about pt's they've seen all the time sans the identifying info, no reason you can't discuss it with your classmates.

sounds like another fake rule/misinterpretation to me....forget the fact no individual has been prosecuted under HIPAA (per someone on SDN a while ago).

you'd be surprised what WE hear going on at the pt's house...

...just say you're compounding something ::shrug:::

Yeah, we had a meeting with the practice experience people for the basic rules and regulations again, and this thing came up that patient information is to remain private and only discussed between you and the team that you are working with at the hospital. Don't discuss it with family/friends, etc was what I was told, even if I remove patient identification.

Apparently some student at a school the faculty member used to work at told his parents about a case he saw on rotations, and it turns out the patient was his parents boss, and it was an HIV case.

There's no way that they would be able to id the patient, unless the student gave information that actually did ID the patient.

Okay that's just stupidity on the student's part for letting the parents ID the guy based on the info he gave about him....and a draconian policy on your school's part to clamp down on it.

Seeing as you know about it, those parents were stupid for even broaching the subject with their boss.

This was a grand epic FAIL on all sides of the problem.
