I got Stanford!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They TOTALLY screen, CONGRATS!!! 🙂

Now where's mine?? 🙁

Stanford has one of the most extensive pre-secondary screening processes in the country, and about half of original applicants get the secondary. Good job so far 👍

Just got the email! Woohoo! Don't know if they screen or not though.
You mean you got a secondary?

I hear they aren't screening this year, someone wanna call them and find out for sure?

They changed their policy this year.

Everyone gets a secondary now. There's no screening.

Jason

yeah i got the email that invites you to complete the secondary. but some other people on this forum are saying they don't screen, so my excitement may have been preemptively unnecessary. 😎

I think Duke is doing the same thing this year, they don't screen anymore. And neither does Northwestern.

You know how it is:
When the economy tanks, everybody gets a secondary!

There has already been a thread that cleared this up, do a search and you will see that they do indeed screen.

Honestly, in all fairness, I got a secondary from SMS and it's unlikely I'd get one if they screen. Not with MY stats. Dunno, I have good EC's, but (3.6, 28R) . . .. come on.

Got mine too 🙂 (though it's not as shiny-looking with no screen):

3.89
31Q
Great EC
verified 6/17

Woo!

okay, i just called stanford to verify:

ALL APPLICANTS ARE ASKED TO FILL OUT A SECONDARY.

Well that takes the excitement out of this thread doesn't it?

Thanks for checking on this for all of us! 🙂

Oh, come on. Saying you hve great EC's is not immodest, if it's true. The real problem here is that pre-meds are so cut-throat and competitive that people don't like to hear about their competition doing well. 😛

And hey, if you don't think your EC's are great, then did you realy enjoy doing them? Something to think about!!

Is everyone supposed to fill out the diversity essay? It's definitely worded so that anyone could fill it out and I hate to leave a 2000 character hole in my app.

Just got the email - I know it's not screened, but it's still nice to get. 🙄

why am I the only who hasn't gotten one yet?

Jason

Thanks stinkycheese for coming to my defense.

I loved my extracurriculars, put alot of effort into them, and learned a whole lot from them. I"m not ashamed to say that I think they are great. I don't know if adcoms will think they are great, cause I can't read minds, but they were very worthwhile to me and that's what matters.

👍

Sorry I wasn't trying to rude.. but I don't need to brag to discuss secondaries.. it's just weird.. like, "hey look at me I'm cool"... i just find it odd that people have the ego to pronounce themselves as great... just a personal turnoff for me, and just an opinion as well. I'm not really worried about my competition either.. I'm more worried about how the adcom's view ME..... so anyway.. didn't mean to stir the water, but just needed to vent my annoyance at someones overbearing ego. 👍

Youre definitely not the only one!! im waiting patiently... and by patiently i mean obsessively checking my email... 😛

I got one too. So now we know that they don't screen, 'cause my numbers aren't even good! In fact, they're questionable.

I didn't get one, but I was processed kinda late (8/4/04), so I prolly have a long wait ahead of me.

UGHHH, I can't believe they don't screen. I was so excited when I got mine today.

Yay! Just got mine. Time to blaze some Stanford.

Are you kidding? Saying you have great extracurriculars isn't bragging. Why is self-confidence and belief in one's own merit suddenly so wrong in society? We should encourage self-confidence in ourselves and each other. There is nothing "braggart" about saying "I have great extracurriculars."

i just find it odd that people have the ego to pronounce themselves as great...

Read it again. He said he had great extracurricular activities. He didn't pronounce himself as great. But so what if he did? You don't think you're great? It's funny how we medicate people in this country when they report feelings of depression and hating themselves, but the rest of us are never supposed to let on that we're happy with ourselves or our life anyway! Should we all pretend not to like ourselves? Seems like a pretty miserable existence to me.

Bragging is more how you say something than what you say. A simple, two-word, "Great EC's" is not a showy, florid way of discussing one's activities.

just a personal turnoff for me, and just an opinion as well. I'm not really worried about my competition either.. I'm more worried about how the adcom's view ME..... so anyway.. didn't mean to stir the water, but just needed to vent my annoyance at someones overbearing ego. 👍

Your standards for what is modest/immodest are very odd. If you consider that post to be a prime example of "overbearing ego", then I wonder how you effectively deal with truly egotistical people in your life.
