I have the impression that the schools that reject have already done so (Mayo, Georgetown, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Chicago, Wake etc) and that most of the others keep you in some hold pile until the spring when they have finished interviews. There really havent been many new schools on the rejection thread since september (new people but no new schools). If this is true, i wonder how long you can still hope to see an email crop up with an interview invite if you are in the first hold pile. in other words, if you didnt make the first cut- JAN? FEB? MARCH? since you have to schedule a few months ahead i would think by the end of the year they would be sceduling for march and so no news by then might be getting close to being the equivalent of a rejection. but its frustrating because i want to take the no news is good news approach but with most schools that seems to be what they do for everyone (for example- has anyone gotten rejected by tufts, columbia, virginia etc?????????????). so no news is just the standard there.
