I do. I'm studying for the OAT (I take it in a week) and I've spent TWO FULL DAYS of 8 hrs a peice studying for JUST PHYSICS. I know the formulas etc....but damn, it's kicking my butt. I took a full Kaplan and got a 220. Then took the opted one and got a 260. I know the real OAT is easier on the physics section (so I've heard), but damn.....how much easier? I'm scoring 300's in all other sections but this one!!!!

Get used to doing that.

Four days before my OAT, I scored a 270 on the physics section of a Kaplan practice test. On the real test I scored a 370. Don't necessarily go into it expecting a 100 point jump, but it is much easier.

And yes, I second what achirum said-- get used to studying long hours.

hey hey hey, how can you hate something so beautiful? 😀

I can pretty much guess what your problem is though...you said "i know the formulas" which is something most people
think if they know, they know how to solve the problem. Usually its a matter of conceptually understanding whats going
on and then knowing the applications.

Final thing, if you have trouble with problems, you can post them here and we will be happy to provide explanations.

I actually think you should consider pushing back your test date a little bit. A 220 on the opted test is not good at all. Kaplan physics is definitely harder than the actual OAT, however the opted physics isn't too much more difficult. If you got 28-29 wrong out of 40, on the opted test, especially considering it is multiple choice, you should be VERY concerned, unless something can explain that score, such as if you were exhausted when you took the opted practice test.

And I fully agree with EyEnStein 07 in that you need to conceptually understand it in order to do well, and I also hope that you've spent a lot more time studying physics than a mere 16 hours (meaning, I hope you've been studying it for at least a few weeks bare minimum).

Edit: I mixed your opted and Kaplan scores up. Obviously a 260 on opted isn't great, however that's not NEARLY as bad as a 220, so it may be realistic that you can get it up to at least 300 on test day. And yes you can post here any specific questions, as I really enjoy explaining topics in science and math. That's why I was a tutor for so many years.

re-read my original post. I got a 260 on the opted one. The kaplan one is LITERALLY, kicking my butt. The opted one, I seem more comfortable with (mainly because it asks more physics 2 stuff, which I'm in phys 2 right now, so it's VERY fresh on my mind. Like I said, it's the only suject that I'm scoring under 300 on (kaplan, opted). I'm studying some more today. Wish me luck. lol.

I re-read it, and I clearly mixed the two scores up. 260 isn't nearly as bad as 220, obviously. Good luck.

ok, studied 6 more hours today. Took the 2nd test in the kaplan book and scored a 300. Not sure why, but this one seemed MUCH easier. I didn't feel like I knew the material that much better, but it was much easier.

That's a tremendous improvement on the Kaplan tests (220 to a 300) so hopefully you do well on test day, good luck!

The destroyer has a ton... but if you've already gone through ALL those resources and STILL need more, you're probably overdoing it. If you're doing tons and tons of problems and are still getting a lot wrong, maybe you should go back to the basics and relearn the material. Be efficient with your time. Use practice problems/tests to figure out your weak areas and then go back to that material and make sure you really know it before you waste your time doing more questions.

Well said. If your course notes happen to be useless (as it was in my case), there are always websites that can help you learn the basics.. I used OAT Destroyer and HyperPhysics..

Hey guys,
Do you actually really HATE studying Physics, or do you really just hate the effort to effectively study it for credit according to a regimented time schedule with a start date and finish date?

Thanks.

Read the thread before responding just based off the subject line.

Thanks.
