hello everyone,
I need to retake Organic chemistry 2 and I was planning on applying this summer to pharm schools. However I am taking the PCAT in August and need time to study for that as well. Do you think it would hurt my chances if I retake Organic chemistry after I apply? or should I get it out of the way before I apply?

It shouldn't matter... the only requirement for pre-reqs is that you have them completed by the time you start Pharmacy school. Since you wouldn't actually be in Pharmacy school until Fall 2008, you have plenty of time to complete OChem 2... you could take it this fall or even spring semester.

If you haven't taken the organic chem 2 at all, then it doesn't really hurt your chances if you want to take it later, as long as you have it completed by the time pharmacy school starts. However, since you've already taken it and didn't get a good grade. It is in your best interest to retake it right away, so that the adcoms will have both of your grades in front of them, instead of just that "bad" grade. Since o-chem is one of the many important pre-req. You don't really need a lot of time to study for the PCAT. I studied for 2 days, maybe that's why I didn't get 99%tile. I know someone who spent the whole summer studying the Kaplen book. Read the whole book 3 times and scored a 22%tile. Then again, I know someone that goes to school full time, work full-time, has a 2 year-old son, and still did good on her PCAT. It's all about time management.

Organic chemistry is a very demanding class. 🙄 With maybe the exception of Calculus, it is regarded as the hardest pre-pharmacy class. 😱 Did you drop the first time? Consider enrolling in Kansas City Kansas Community Colllege's Organic Chemistry II online taught by Dr. Ron Budhram. You can take each test up to three times so you can get a better grade. 🙂 Its worth the out of state tuition if you are a pre-pharmacy student.
