Is anyone else in love with Cornell after interviewing?

What can I do to convey my emotions to them strongly without getting dumped on the second date?

Write to the admissions committee expressing your interest and the reasons behind it. It does make a difference at this school.

Good luck 🙂

Noted.

i did the letter of intent thing at cornell after i went to all my interviews. i dont know how much stock is put into them, but i'm here, so it couldnt have hurt 🙂

go big red 😀

I feel that way too, but they haven't interviewed me yet... here's hoping!!!

Speaking of writing to Cornell...I've been complete since Aug. 29, but no word yet. Do you think it's time to start calling the office?

Definitely.

no. The front office do not control who gets interviews, nor will they write notes for you and send them on. You will just annoy them/waste their time. If you *MUST* contact someone write a letter to the admissions committee. However, I think it's way too early for that too.

They wouldn't relay a message to the committee?

Hey DoctorKevin,

Yeah, I really loved Cornell too!!!!!!!! I wouldn't write them a letter of intent at this point, but I would definetly write them a letter of interest. I'm going to send out the thank-you notes tommorow, and then after that i think i'll do the letter of interest re-stating my interest and reasons I want to attend.

Good luck!!! Are you interviewing anywhere else in the next month? Maybe i'll see you around again!!

In what sense? If you called and asked them to 'take down this message'? The admissions staff work very hard on behalf of all applicants but I think asking them to take dictation is beyond what you should expect them to do for you. You should also consider how it looks to the committee if you think it's appropriate to call someone and impose on them like that but can't be bothered writing it and mailing it yourself. It doesn't give a great impression.

However, what I meant by 'nor will they write notes and pass them on' is that expressing interest to them is somewhat pointless to your admissions chances - they may appreciate hearing positive impressions of the school as they play a role in that - but they don't characteristically note every detail of every call and pass your name with a gold star to the admissions committee.

Well, I wouldn't be calling to try to get an interview...I would just be trying to figure out what's up with my file. It's been almost 7 weeks...

Oh I see. Thanks. The admissions office was very helpful when I called with questions, but I e-mailed the thank you letters directly to my interviewers. I'll probably send another letter of interest to the adcom soon too.

well, I'm not sure what the turn around time this year is however we really haven't been interviewing for very long yet - and many of those people will have had their files complete at the very earliest AMCAS date etc. Of course you should do whatever you are most comfortable with - but I would say it is still a little early to be worrying. The admissions staff here are very good/professional and I have never heard of people having problems with them getting to their files in due course.

PianoGirl04, I was complete around the same time and still have not heard anything about an interview. If you call them, let me know how that goes.

I've been complete since the end of July...and still no word. I called them a couple days ago. All they would tell me is that my file is under review. They say that you may be invited for an interview anytime between now and march. so i'm just waiting...

btw pianogirl, grumpy bear, S&S, Quideam and any other Cornell applicants - I just wanted to add - good luck!!

Cornell seems to be one of those schools that elicit either love or hate (I'm not sure why the latter) and I was definitely one of the "love" category last year - so I understand the anxiousness about getting in.

So best of luck with getting in and wherever you end up choosing to go 🙂

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm still not sure what I should do...7 weeks is a long time, especialy considering that I go to Cornell for undergrad. Although they no longer offer all Cornellians interviews, I've heard there's a slight advantage to being a Big Red Applicant. For me, the delay is definitely not a matter of low stats, poor ECs, or bad LORs either. Well, I'll let you know if I hear anything. Good luck to all of you!

Good luck everyone! Hopefully everything will start to speed up.

Lol.... well, I must say, the "hot guy" rating was a bit low, but now below average!!!!! Then again, I only got to see about five or six guys while I was there, and they were ALL asian! 🙂. I'm going to have to adjust my tastes if I come to Cornell.... lol 😀

Because I'm in the same boat as some of the people in this thread.😱

I acutally had a weird experience w/Cornell because for some reason I never received any of their emails. I had to get the secondary link from someone else and I never heard from them again... until today when they called me to invite me for an interview- i guess they had emailed a few weeks ago and I never responded so I say if it's been awhile CALL them because you never know what's going on in this process.

DoctorWolf - That's interesting...I'll keep it in mind. But I did get the secondary in August and the email saying my app was complete about 7 weeks ago. So I don't think my problems are a matter of email, but it's always a possibility.

For any of you who are still anxiously waiting to her from Cornell...

The second I got my Columbia interview, I jumped at the chance to call Weill and try to "coordinate" interview dates. I talked to someone really nice at the admissions office, who took a note for me, but couldn't tell me anything about getting an interview. She pulled up my file and I got the impression that it hadn't been reviewed at all yet. She reiterated for me that they will e-mail to ask for an interview as soon as they've decided. So anyway, for those of you who are still waiting, I think that Cornell really is just being very very slow, and calling doesn't seem to be enormously useful. Any good news on this front for anyone yet?

Yes, I think its possible that Cornell would not have interviewed me (or at least so soon) if I had not emailed them telling them I was going over there for Einstein, etc.

Call or email them if you are going and they will look at your file right away!

Kevin

I just received the email, and they offered dates from the 12th - 18th of November, so they're definitely not booked too far in advance...I was able to coordinate it w/my Columbia interview, but I think I was just pretty lucky that they happened to offer the same week as Columbia...

steinway, did you email or call cornell about it? or did it happen by chance you received an interview date next to columbia's?

i called cornell five weeks before my interview at einstein to try to coordinate interviews. and i called again about two weeks before my einstein interview to see if anything had progressed with my app. All they would tell me was that they had made a note on my application and that hopfully the committee would make a decision in time. i had my interview at einstein 2 weeks ago and i still haven't heard from cornell...

I just loved Cornell. My #1!!!

Keeping my fingers crossed!

i didn't call, it just happened by chance that they offered a few days that i had already planned on being there...

Got the Cornell interview invite today!! I couldn't be more happy!!!!! 😍 😍 😍

hey guys- i too got an invite this afternoon... anybody know if they give any explicitly stated edge to cornell undegrad alums in the admissions process? i guess it couldnt hurt, but in the past ive heard they used to give all big red applicants interviews, and even offer on-site interview in ithaca (although i dont see how someone who really wanted to go there couldnt hop on a bus for 5 hours to NYC). any advice from people who have already interviewed there? do you think its a good idea to coordinate an interview with NYU for the day after? what do you think distinguishes cornell from the other schools in the city?

*Sigh*...I've officially hit the 2-month file complete mark, and still no word from my own school...

I'm not sure if this is true for the MD(it definitely is for MSTP): Cornell is affiliated with two other great places, Memorial Sloan Kettering and Rockefeller. Also, the three are about 2 blocks away from each other.

PianoGirl, don't worry, I'm sure you'll be hearing soon. I know of one other Cornellian who heard yesterday. I'm sure yours is on its way.

That's not true anymore (if it was to begin with)
