A little over an hour ago I turned in my docotral project for binding and signed all completion forms. I am offically finished.

I am apprehensive about the next hurdles such as licensure and postdocs. But the main hurdle has been completed. Im elated and spent at the same time. I want to cry, I want to sleep, I want to reflect all at the same time.

.

Congrats !! What is it like reflecting back on the whole process?

Yea, I can relate. What was the most difficult thing for you ?

1. Terrible supervision by the director of my internship/awful internship experience

2. Completing my doctoral project with barely any guidance from my chair.

3. The 'culture' of grad school.

what culture are you speaking to?

Congratulations on this great milestone!!

Congratulations! I'm currently on internship and not that far along in writing my dissertation (data collected, but still need to analyze and begin writing). I'm finding it hard to find time to work on this during internship. Do you have any words of advice about getting through this? I'm finding internship to be quite draining.

The ego of the professors and other profesisonals who are already licensed and their foibles you must deal with to survive as well as the culture of student cliques and competition. Granted, I may have been naive and still may be, but I felt in the profession that we are in, those things would not have come into play on such a grand scale.

That's not to say that there have not been some wonderful experiences and wonderful people along the way.

Well, you are already somewhat ahead of the game as you have your data already collected. I understand that while on internship there is basically no energy to do dissertation but:

As soon as possible have the data analyzed.

Then begin the writing process of chapters 3/4 (Results, Discussion). Set yourself a date to defend. That date will keep you motivated to finish it. Make sure your chair is available and gives guidance to what they want. Be sure to document each and every meeting or coorespondence you have with them and what the content of those contacts entailed. I am not sure about your chairperosns personality, but you have to keep on your chair to make them accountable.

Check online for the many resources available that can aid you in what to do with the results and how to manage your project. I wish I had back then lol.

I have found very little to none of this in my program, fellow students, and practucum sites. I think it would be wiser to say "the culture of your particular program."
