Hey all,

I know it is really late in the app cycle, but is it too late? Am I competitive, what are your thoughts?

I took the DAT in September and scored pretty well 23AA/24TS/24RC. My undergrad is confusing. I was taking classes at a community college during my senior year and post grad year of high school while playing Junior A hockey, I then went on to play in college. I played for a pretty good team and while I had 2 good semesters with a 3.3-3.5 gpa I also had 2 bad semesters where I had to deal with mid semester knee reconstruction and shoulder surgery. This resulted in a 2.2 gpa and a 2.5 gpa. I could not play hockey any longer and decided to transfer to a better school academically. At the other school I had a 3.35cGPA and a 3.45sGPA. I was a double major Bio/Envi Sci and was taking 17-18 credits per semester. All of my hard science classes have been taken in the last 2 years and I have not received below a B+ in them. Also while in college I have done significantly better in my science classes overall than my other classes. I am currently in a master of medical science program and my adviser in the program was the one who suggested I apply in this cycle.

I would wait. Some schools are already done interviewing for the entire cycle. If you wait and apply early next cycle, you'll have a MUCH better shot at landing some decent interviews!

i think you're very competitive for acceptance if you have the ECs and can talk about your experiences well during the interview. obviously it's very late in the game but if you have the money and really want to get an acceptance this year, i think you have a fairly good chance. that having been said, i'd wait until next year. you don't want to spend 4 years at a school you don't really want to attend.

Hey thanks for the input. My cGPA is a 3.1 and sGPA is a 3.2 overall at every school. To be honest I am in Boston now and am looking to stay here because my brother is in Law School here. I was told by the director of admissions at BU to apply this year, which I thought was promising because she knows all of my stats and that I am currently in the MAMS program. I was told that the faculty usually discourages people from applying in their first year of the MAMS program because they want you there for 2 years. I had originally planned on applying next cycle until I was advised to apply now, I figured that they know better than I do.

You should definitely apply NOW!!

I am assuming you are only applying to schools in Boston which is only 3 of them including Harvard. If the faculty at BU suggest it then you should. The maximum fee incurred is around $500 in total with the fee to AADSAS and each school? That is not so much comparing to thinking "what if!!"

You should definitely do it because your DAT is very competitive (that is hella good score) and you have upward trend GPA which is very promising.

It is all up to you but i would rather hash out $500 than saying "what if"

Do you have LOR and personal statement ready?

I would apply ASAP if I was you.... That DAT is huge

I would say it's too late. Schools are beginning to make offers of acceptance this week. Save the time, stress, and money inherent in applying for next cycle.

If you don't mind wait another year, I would do that since that will significantly increase your chance as everyone said above.

At this point, I would apply only to your top 2-3 choices if I were you. If you just want an acceptance, then go ahead right now and apply broadly.

If you are looking to stay in Boston area, apply to Tufts. Why not? Their deadline is Feb. 1.

If you've taken ANY pre-reqs at a community college, you'll have to retake them if you want to get into Tufts as they don't accept community college units.

👍 Then go ahead and apply to BU!

(though I wouldn't trust them 100% because I was encouraged to apply to a school which turned me down later  Oh well, I guess they only wanted my app. fee)

Update: well I got an email saying that they received my secondary and payment yesterday. Then I got an email today inviting me for an interview. Im pretty impressed with the turnaround time. Now what are the chances of acceptance after an interview?

dAMN! dude..congratulations on the quick interview...looks like they love your story (on file/personnal statemtn)

Way to go man, it's definitely not too late. Schools keep filling up until late in the spring, I just applied for a couple of more schools myself.

Update:
App is on hold until my academic update is processed at tufts, is that good or bad?
Just got an interview at Columbia.

No rejections so far....
