I am waitlisted at NJMS and I email Dr. Heinrich to give me advice on how to better my status on the waitlist. He just told me that to send him ne thing that will help me to him directly. Should I still call him to ask for advice or should i take what he said as is? How long should I wait? How often should i sent updates or LOI's? Its just the fact that i really want to go to that school.

Thanks

I think he just means that you need to show him, in writing, that you're 1) really interested in the school - like, first-choice-I-will-go-here interested and 2) give the adcoms that little bit of information to push you over into the accepted pile.

Have you had the chance to work on any abstracts or papers? Or perhaps an update in your volunteer experiences? Grades? Any updated information, combined with something about why I really want to go here, would be helpful.

As far as timeframe, hmm...that's a good one. Do you know if waitlists are gradually accepted before May 15? Or are they only accepted after? If it's only after May 15, it might be best to hold off on sending anything until early April - but I'm not sure. I'm certain someone else will have a better idea of how to proceed.

Oh, and I wouldn't call him just yet - I think he's hoping you read between the lines. Again, this is all IMHO!

Best of luck!!

Might be worth it to send them a letter of interest once every month or so leading up to June then, keeping them updated piece by piece on your activities since your interview. This way you can show a lot of interest and force them to pull your file several times, which can't hurt. Finish it up with a very strong letter of interest a couple weeks before waitlist movement starts and you could very well be golden.
