Hello, im new to this forum and would like to be critically analyzed and advised.

i have just recently decided to apply for pharmacy school. i havent turned any applications in yet. im not a 100% positive on how the process goes with schools making their decisions but thats a different topic.

This is what i got under my belt:
Biochem major (will get BS this spring)
3.67 gpa
2 summers of internship at universities
worked for my schools stockroom for 3 years
since August ive volenteered at a pharmacy (my pharmacist told me i can tell him what to write for my letter of rec.)
Vice president of the chemistry club for 2 years
my professors will write killer letters of rec.
i will finish all of the pre recs for pre pharm by the time i graduate
currently, the schools im looking at are UCSF, UCSD, UOP, and Western U.
My father was a general surgeon

Any advice is welcome, from schools to apply to things i should include ub my personal statement.

please do not flame me if im doing something "looked down upon" on this forum 👍

You're stats look great! Just make sure you do a good job on your personal statement. Also, you might try doing some mock interviews or that kinda thing. I think the interview is a really important part of actually getting accepted.

Good luck!

Why would your dad being a surgeon influence your value as an applicant? I could see you discussing this in your essay as a source of influence over your chosen career path. But, I would not count it as something under your belt. It is your dad's accomplishment.

The CA schools are hypercompetitive. I would reccommend choosing 1-2 out of state schools to apply to as well.

I agree with the previous post. Your stat looks awesome (Biochemistry as the major is a plus, at least for me). I think you have a good chance. Anyway, just to be save, I think you should apply to one or two out-of-state schools. As you might already know, CA schools are unbelieveably competitive --- especially for UCSF and UCSD. But you should not have problem with Western though. Anyway, good luck!

im not planning to take the pcats, so im limiting myself to a smaller school pool. Should i even consider applying to UCSF or UCSD? i dont feel like wasting money.
What schools should i apply out-of-state?

i really appreciate the comments...keep'em flowing 😀

Honestly you should apply for UCSF and UCSD because you're stats look good so you have a great chance. Those two schools are very competitive, but with what you have now you should be in the competitive applicant range all depending on your personal statement and interview, if you get to that point because from what i've learned from the forum...the interview can make a huge difference. Hawaii college of Pharmacy doesn't require Pcat and so do some other ones. good luck!

your dad is a general surgeon, then YOU'RE IN!

How is that a stat anyhow? but other than that, great stats. just rock on your interview.

Have you read the FAQ? Most of your questions can be answered there as far as competitiveness, application procedures, etc.

man its hard to answer all the questions on the application (USN) 😛

wow, you've got your dad as a gen. surgeon under your belt, those guys at the admissions will definately accept you based on that merit! 🙄

I extremely doubt that the poster had any intentions that their dad being a gen sur. would help them get in...
Soo, lets lay off. I think the poster was looking for constructive criticism..

Your stats look great, good luck on your admission process.

thanks, i just thought that some schools looked at that since i heard stereotypes in movies and what not, anyways, that will not take part in my application since it makes no sense to follow through with it 👍

lay off the sarcasim if you are posting in this thread... +pity+
