Hi everyone,

I start my sophomore year at a community college in Arlington, TX this fall and plan to transfer to UTA Fall 2004 with biology major. I will apply to all three TX dental schools, but Baylor is priority because I'm married and I want to study around Dallas.
My questions are:

1. Do I have to finish my biology degree at UTA before going to dental school?

2. If not, when should I take DAT and turn in application?

3. I've been in US for 2 years, Asian, married, and English is my second language. My GPA after freshman year is 4.0 with 32 credit. I must go to community college instead of uni for financial reason (not enough money). Will these be disadvantages to my application? Do I have any chances?

Please help me to answer these questions. Thanks in advance!!!

1. It is adviced, but it is not necessary.

2. If you are applying to next year's admission, you should take it before the end of this year. Some schools may require earlier dates.

3. Write ur hardship in your essay. If you could turn ur hardship into your strength, it wont hurt your application

I m an immigrant too in CA, so I donno much about TX dental schools.

Hey Katie

I'm just starting my first year at Baylor. There are several asian females in my class who are married, have children and English being their second language. So I believe you have just as good of a chance as any other applicants. Going to community college shouldn't hurt you since you did well (4.0), I would suggest you take some upper division, more known to be challenging science classes at UTA to prove your competence.

As far as when to take DAT, I'd say take it before you turn in the application. That way, the school will have your complete application when they start reviewing. (Apply early!! that would greatly increase your chance)

Good luck

Also, since you have family in Dallas, that should also help your chance at Baylor. Try to mention that to your interviewer 🙂

Thank you for all reply. I'll try my best to get in Baylor School, kind of no choice. Is it okay if I take all Preqs at community college? I plan to take some upper biology classes at University.
Thanks again
