My wife has given me the okay to pursue being a doctor. The problem is I have no idea what degree to go for. The nearest 4 year university is almost 2 hours from where I live. Is there a degree I can get that is primarly online. That will prepare me for school?

You don't need a degree to go to med school. If you can get one go for it, if not then don't kill yourself. Settle down to take the prereqs and pass the MCAT. Goodluck

Even basic classes such as math and english? I have to get my wife through nursing before I can go to a physical class.

It's better to take the NON-prereq classes online. I don't think English classes will matter though. But, you definitely have to take the pre-req classes in person (such as bio, chem, physics, etc). Also, not sure if your closest 4 year university will offer this, but mine offered online classes that doesn't show up as online, it just counts for that semester. Maybe you can look into that?

Oh okay! Sweet I can do that! I work for a fire department and they have paid for a lot of EMS related classes such as paramedic. So you guys think a bachelors in EMS would be alright if I just finished the other pre reqs on the side?

Yep! It doesn't matter what you get a degree in as long as you have the pre-reqs done!

Awesome thanks guys!

Another thing. My ACT score is a 21 and I took it about 5 years ago. Will I need to redo it?

I don't know where you heard that, almost every school I know of requires a 4yr Bachelors degree prior to med school. It doesn't matter what the degree is in as long as the required pre-reqs are met, but you definitely have to finish a Bachelors first.

Is there a community college nearby? Start taking classes there. It is not true that online courses are rarely accepted. With that said it's better not to take them and medical school admissions is so hard that you want to stack the deck in your favor whenever you can.

Yeah there is. I can finish an EMS degree here before I have to venture out for the pre reqs

A lot of schools are NOT OK with online credits.

Is there a CC nearby? You could at least start there.

Agree with above, start with CC. Avoid online especially for sciences/required courses. Some universities have hybrid brick and mortar and online programs with your transcript not indicating any difference. So if you need basics like English, math, etc the you could do those online and perhaps the other in person.

Good luck

Okay that sounds good. My plan was to do math and english online and do the science classes in person.
