Hi,

I am currently a junior at a university and planning to get a degree in biology. My main goal is med school but I need a backup just in case if things don't go right for me. Also, i was recommended to major in Microbiology with Medical Technology but I am not sure if i should do microbio instead of bio. Also, what can i really do with a bio or a microbio degree after I graduate? I just need a good backup plan. 🙂

Dont be a jughead! Get out of bio or micro.......not a good choice.
Switch to engineering or any other field like nursing etc., that will at least give you a professional undergraduate career that you can fall back onto if you are not accepted after graduated into the undergraduate MD program.

Mine was teaching. It still competes a little. I want to mostly practice medicine and sometimes teach. How do I do this?

yikes! i guess i don't really have a backup plan. i'm a neurobiology major; switched out of engineering after two years of endless problem sets; couldn't see doing that for the rest of my life. i guess it's med school or else! 🙂 👍 or else? 😕 or else what?? i don't know what else 🙁 👍

Also, just curious how can i do engineering wheni need other classes to prepare for Med School.

If you do engineering, you'll probably fulfill english, math, and physics along the way. The only extra classes I had to take for med school were 1 year bio, 1 year gchem, 1 year ochem. Not that bad.

I majored in Biomedical Engineering and my requirements covered ALL premed requirements:
1 year Math (like 3 times over)
1 year Physics (duh!)
1 year GChem (all engineers here have to take 1 year of GChem)
1 year Orgo (for BME, yup)
1 year Biology (we actually get 2 years bio)
1 year English (Freshman Comp. + Upper level Eng. requirement, yup!)

I have three years left and I might try to go into bio tech and see if its still possible. Also, why is bio tech major better than biology major?
I know its really popular but don't you have more options if you do biology??This question is for the bio and bio technology majors == " do you have any backup plan if med school doesnt work out for you"

well it was all going good until i met this person who keeps talking about backup and heck he is always you need to have backup of your backup plan. Also, i was looking at this site - http://mdapplicants.com/ and it kinda freaked me out. hehe Also, i am worried cuz it might take me more than 4 years to get my degree and i don't know if that will look bad when i apply to med school. Thats why i dont want to risk it, just in case. I attended community college and stupid advisors guided me in the wrong direction. I just transferred to a 4 year college but i think it might take me 3 years here to complete all the classes i need. I might go into bio tech and see cuz i dont see much difference. thanks for the tip Psycho Doctor ...hehe
