Okay,i need help to ease my mind...I'm totally stressing. I'm going into my
3rd year of undergrad. at UCI and i have a few questions, first off, here are my stats:

2.6 GPA (yeah, i know!)
3+ years working at Slave-on (now currently CVS)
pharmacy club member
community service hours
good letters of rec from pharmacy manager and professor
*going to apply to UCSD,UCSF,USC,UOP,pretty much everything in california

My questions are, since i'm applying to school in california, is it necessary to take PCAT? Will it hurt me if i do badly? When is the earliest to apply to pharmacy school? I'm already retaking classes that i did poorly in...what else will help me? I don't want to be a 5th year at uci, so i want to apply soon. please give me advice...somebody.

I know you might have your heart set on Cali schools - but to be honest, most of those schools rely heavily on your Academic record. It comes down to your GPA, and how difficult it was to earn that GPA. If I were you, study your TAIL off, take the PCAT - a 90+ would definitely look good for you - then apply to schools that require it. PCAT can help make a GPA better, but a lower GPA w/o a Good PCAT is simply not a good idea. Do you like any schools outside of Cali?

You forgot Western and Loma Linda......If you want to apply in California, you REALLY need to bring that GPA all the way up, notice how i emphasized the word "REALLY" .......the competitiveness for entry into a california pharmacy school is really top notch.....how far are you into your prereq requirements??? i mean have you taken ochem or biochem yet???? unless you get all A in all the classes you plan to retake, it wont be much of a help for you to retake the classes........my advice is to be more active, try to do something different from everyone who's applying, seperate yourself from the rest, try to stand out from the rest........do an outstanding personal statement explaining to the admission board why you did so poor in some of the classes....... ......hope that helps, best of luck to ya........ohh yeah, i dont think California schools require the PCAT.......

Hey Hey... doesn't look too good... better get that GPA up...

why is your GPA so low.......is it because of some uncontrollable circumstances? Honestly, I think your GPA won't get u in any schools in cali.

My GPA is 3.0 and I feel like I'm doomed! The only hope I have is the fact that my GPA is 3.6 for the last 60 units.

Does that mean your GPA for the first 60 units is about 2.4 ish? Did you party a lot?

yea, i just pretty much slacked off...and now that i'm trying to bring up my grades, even though i'm improving, i don't think it'll quite reach what i'm aiming for (3.0 ish) but i feel like i have other things going for my application...i've worked at sav-on for 3+ years, and my manager will write me a good letter of rec, and i have ec's...i don't know any advice on how to make other parts of my resume look good?

Although the extra stuff is good - you should be aware of how many people are applying to pharm school - most will have excellent extra currics too - GPA is huge w/ schools that do not require the PCAT. Furthermore, the competition in Cali is fierce (just like florida). I know how you feel. If you want it, you can get it - but you may have to spend a whole lot of time retaking Pre-reqs to get there.
