hi kajrah07,

one thing that would really help us assess you on-the-spot is some statistics: MCAT, GPA, BCPM-GPA, undergrad university, volunteer experience, clinical experience, research experience, home state, willingness to leave said home state, etc.

I second that, ryan. OP, we can't help you without some more info. There's no such thing as an "easy" school to get into...half of all applicants in any given year don't get in. Oh, and get a copy of the MSAR.

well i'll be taking the mcat on the 13th, and yes i know md schools are hard to get into, but there has to be some out there that dont kill a person before they admit them, thats what i was looking for...i have PLENTY of volunteer work, and my gpa is 3.44

and yes i am looking at both md and do schools

i go to Drexel in PA and I am willing to apply anywhere!

Well, your reply has given us 2 important variables and 2 not so important variables.

Your GPA is probably just a hair below the average applicant GPA. Are you, by chance, majoring in engineering? That might help a bit, but you are still going to be on the bottom third of the spectrum.

It is hard to give you solid advice without an MCAT/GPA combo. Do you test well? Do you anticipate above a 30 on the MCAT ( I know this is hard to answer and not very accurate, but it does provide a little insight).

Drexel is a solid, middle-of-the-road school. Not an ivy, but not a community college either. That's good, but your 3.4 GPA makes it less impressive.

As for "plenty of volunteer work" - is any of it clinical? Is any of it within the last 3 years? Is any of it self-activating, requiring you to show motivation or leadership? Is it something beside ER bed-making? Is it in depth or in breadth?

It is pretty hard to give you advice in the place you are at. Let me finish with this: Your MCAT/GPA combo will get you noticed. Your MCAT/GPA + EC's and PS will get you and interview. You interview will get you in.

If you stick with a 3.4 GPA and decent on the MCAT, you should have a shot at Penn State or Drexel or Temple or a few "lower tier'" schools. If you keep going in the direction you've started, it will probably be a good idea to think DO the whole way through.

Best of luck!

Using how you scored on full-length practice MCATs as a guide, go through the MSAR or other stat book and choose schools that are close to your stats. That's the easiest way to gauge your chances of getting into a particular medical school. It won't be a tell all indicator, but it will give you a place to start. Once you get your score you can whittle the list down based on how well you think you would fit in and other things.

thanks guys!

yea, i've been practicing and so far have been scoring 10 in biology, 11 in verbal, and 10 in physical sciences

and i have done volunteer work in the past three years all at hospitals and still am....er room, surgical units, etc....

um, i am a bio major....but been thru a lot in undegrad years, where my ps will come in

but thanks anyway!

Ditto. Here is my advice, kid...😛

APPLY AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE! Do some research on schools of interest and, based on numbers, choose some you find as "safety" (haha, I laugh at that now), realistic, and stretch. Admission is about the whole package and there will be people starting med school this year with a huge range of MCATs and GPAs. No matter what, but especially if you have any concern about your application, apply early early early early. I cannot stress that enough. Get in ahead of the game. I was told by professors at one of the nation's top medical schools that I would be a shoe-in almost anywhere. Unfortunately, my secondaries were completed later than many others and I ended up with 1 direct admission (now also accepted off 2 waiting lists). So in conclusion, med school is just plain hard to get into no matter who you are.

The real answer: The ones where you know important people. Seriously.

You seem to be in pretty good shape so far, but your GPA might hurt a little. As always, apply broadly and early. Good luck!

Don't worry too much. Your GPA is in line with my undergrad GPA. SO just make sure that you do well on the MCAT. I also want to echo an earlier poster that suggested for you to get a copy of the MSAR. It is available on the AMCAS website (at least it was last year). Gives you lots of good stats to size up which schools that you may be most competitive at. I wish I would have purchased my copy before I sent out all my applications. ANyway, good luck to you! :luck:
